Actually I'm thinking of popping in and talking to the owner tomorrow, receipts in hand, face to face and volunteering to take a polygraph asking me if I've ever stolen anything from any store I've ever worked at.

If there is one thing that I'm pure as the driven snow about, it's stealing.

As for the reason to fire me, I can't think of why. I've had no complaints from my Manager. I follow the rules to the letter on cash management and check cashing. My shifts always balance. I haven't missed a day of work. Heck, they should be looking to promote me.

I would be pissed period. Accusing your customers unless you are 190% sure is a very bad thing, better to take some losses than to start down that road.

Don't do it rpm.

I think this guy is pushing you to get a reaction. Give him one and he'll be happy and ratchet it up to see what more he can get. It's tough but best policy is to ignore the jerk and I think he'll get bored. If you have to do something then a quiet word with the manager simnple stating that you feel; as if this guy is trying to cause a problem might be best.

Thats what I would do.

Hire someone to really steal something and plant it in the jerks car.
then report him. :D

Actually it wouldnt surprise me if in the end it was found out that this guy was doing a bit of stealing hiimself.

Remember hearing of a similar situation around here where a cop was hired to do pretty much the same thing at a grocery store and 6 months later he himself was arrested for stealing from the very store he was hired to prevent stealing from.

Beauty of it was. This cop on the street was known to be a real hard arse. The real gung ho type that would probably give his own mom a ticket for jay walking.

From what I hear its not at all an unsual occurance.

But I would wait and see if it happens again. If it does I would do as you are thinking and go visit the owner.

I've always found its best to meet this kind of situation head on.

If you quit without saying anything you will just look like you are running, and will also make you "look" guilty.

If they are looking to get rid of you they will find a reason anyway
Which may be the case. (coul be they just dont like you)

So I would indeed say something. Yet I'd still look for something else.
But dont just quit without saying anything.

And while your visiting the owner try making this suggestion.

Suggest to him to make it policy that any employee leaving the store with purchased items show the items and the present the receipt to this store security before leaving. Which he (the guard)should also have to sign.
Point out that by the cop willy nilly stopping people in the parking lot may be opening the company up for harassment charges which whether true or not, is the kind of aggravation nobody in the company needs.
This way they cant be accused of harrassment if everyone is subject to the same scrutiny at all times

That way you dont come off as being a whiner but rather as someone who sees a potential problem and has a suggestion to make it better and covers everyone's arse including his.

So why was your first post in this thread deleted? I can't remember the exact content. Maybe I'm wrong who knows.

It's possible I crossed the acceptable line, altho I thought I edited it to a PG-13 level. Or it's possible I touched a nerve. I'm not freaked out about it, altho I would have preferred to have the offending comment edited instead of the entire post. We're still in a learning curve with the community mods.

I was afraid of this.

Now I have no idea what the original post said and it was an interesting thread.

Maybe the guy who deleated your original post is a relative of the security guard. They seem to share some common personality traits.
