The Final Battle in North Africa 1945
« on: June 23, 2005, 10:45:21 AM »
The Final Battle in North Africa 1945 a continuation “What If” scenario. Week of June 23 - June 30.

The time is now 1945 and the German Afrika Korps has taken a beating by the combined armies of the United States and Britain with the Free French assisting them. The Allies landed a force in Morocco and began a drive eastward only to be stymied by the Desert Fox. Rommel was removed from combat with severe physical ailments but returned in time to orchestrate a brilliant defensive plan that stopped the Allies again on their drive to Egypt. Now its time to begin pulling back into Italy and prepare for what many feel will be the final battles to solidify the Thousand Year Reich.

The Americans and British have massed 500,000 troops in North Africa to beat the Germans into the Mediterranean. Field Marshall Rommel knows that he simply can’t compete with the overwhelming force that faces him. He has asked the German High Command for all the support they can muster since the Eastern Front no longer exists. As such the Luftwaffe is racing fighter and bomber Geschwaders into Italy and North Africa to support the remaining ground forces in North Africa.

Among the fighters pouring into North Africa on allied side are the brand new P-51D, P-38L, B-24 Liberator, Tempest V and the F4U-1D. The Axis forces are refitting expended fighter squadrons with the newest aircraft in their inventory and only available in small numbers. Those being the Me-262 and Ar-234 (please read the notes at the bottom); those aircraft are accompanied by the Fw-190D9, Bf-109G-10, an upgraded Ju-88 and the Bf-110G2 for ground attack and close air support.

With the Soviet Union having just completed a separate peace agreement with Germany it has opened up the war to new areas. Japan is begging Germany to push through the Middle East and attack India. Germany is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel of war. Can they hold out? Can they defend long enough for the army to get reinforcements through to Mediterranean? Only time will tell and sadly there isn’t much left.

The setup:

I think subing the Panzer for the M26 is shortchanging the Allies a bit. The armor and the US 90mm gun on the M26 was every bit equal to the Tiger. Otherwise (and the GV's are of little concern to me anyway) it looks like a great setup.

I agree that it could be different but as I mentioned in another thread we were running out of available staffers to have it changed this weekend.

NO SPIT 14..........I don't care who grumbles and rumbles about it.
