Thank you for the links DipStick. Thats a great idea and the map design would be perfect. but not exactly what I'm talking about here.
Maybe I'm not making myself clear somehow. You would pick a base, example "Bf-109-G10".
Grab the 109 from the hanger and take off in the direction of the enemy base. There any opponent who ups is going to be in the exact model as you.
Now, the two of you(or more probably) would try to kill each other. All things being equal, the winner is the better pilot, that round anyway.
Say I get shot down, I will learn from my errors in judgement or I will learn from my opponents superior moves. Either way I will become a better pilot knowing that I wasn't wupped because of various advantages between one aircraft over another.
Here's another example. When a buddy and I would play Madden football on my Playstation2,sometimes we would pick identical teams just to level the playing field and eliminate any sort of advantage one team had over the other. When I kicked his butt, he knew it was only me and my skills which beat him. I also had to show him some of my tricks I used to beat him. It was a friendly exchange in which we both increased our knowledge and it made for some great gameplay, especially when we went online against the world(MA).
I just would think it very cool to take my nikky or any aircraft I choose, up against another on an equal basis. I know training is there and yes it is possible to set up a similar scenario if somebody switched sides and agreed to fight you but.....one big hassle too and pain in the arse.
I know it may not be an accepted idea but if it was in place, I believe it would be the best way to really learn how to fly a virtual aircraft to the best of your ability,no crying allowed.
Just a positive fun arena to fly and learn in, all things being equal except skill.
