I have been following/using some of the tips from XP tweak guide and the 3DMark05 test came up as part of stress testing. My current 2.8 GHz P4 w/1MB ram and 6600GT Nvidia card scored 3200. All 3DMark05 scores over 10,000 were held by AMD processors that appeared to be overclocked. It looks like my next system will be AMD (I've always used Intel). It's about time I tried Intels competition.

Actually, 3DMark05 does not give a hoot about the CPU. It is very, very video card dependent.

That's very interesting. What I have observed is that all 3DMark05 10000+ score systems had overclocked Nvidia 6800GT cards along with the overclocked AMD 64 processors. It appears that AMD has some optimization for graphics intensive applications. The fastest P4 with the Nvidia 6800GT card gives scores around 8000+. The fastest AMD system gives scores of 14000+ using the Nvidia 6800GT, overclocked of course.

However, the total system may not be any faster. The 3DMark05 is just one test, afterall, and could be biased towards AMD. Still, there is some distinction in the graphics performance between the AMD 64 and Intel for now. It could also be that there are more system tweakers using AMD processors.

everything will go to 64 bit eventually anyway, i'd go with the company thats been doing it the longest

NVidia optimizes thier drivers for AMD. ATI optimizes for Intel.

Generally you will get better performance from NVidia in AMD systems versus ATI. Likewise, you get better performance from ATI in Intel versus AMD.
