My Job Sucks + Sing along!
« on: June 27, 2005, 07:02:36 AM »
Friday..

Found out that I lost my reguraly scheduled day off which was Monday the 4th of July. After I had already made plans to cook out with family.

Lost it to another employee, who put in for vacation a few weeks back. We had a girl quit, Who was scheduled to work for the above girl on the 4th. Now I have to give my regularly scheduled day so this woman can have her 4th off Paid time off.

Also got chewed out by my upper echelon's for giving workers meals. And for saying something to somebody I shouldnt have. :D
Worked all weekend upset.

Monday..

Early morning to put a $3000 food order away, ugh!, wait for my boss to arrive to get paycheck. (One good thing about Monday), Also want to talk to her to see of I can switch the schedule around for the 4th.

I recieved an abrupt no.

Furious, I keep my temper. Then she tells me shes resigning in August. Which is a shame because we got along so well.

Im really considering giving this woman a reality check when I return to work in a few hours. This whole weekend Ive been thinking about quitting, but quitting just because I lost my day off is BS. Im a courteous guy, And I wouldnt just walk off my job, Although I have before (Another Story:D) But this place is killing me. Losing the 4th is the last straw. Day after Day its the same BS.

So now for the Sing Along  :D

Man I sure dont miss that kind of nonsence.

But I learned a long time ago to never ask for a day off if I really needed or wanted it off. But to tell em I'm taking the day. And if I had the time accrued I expected to be able to use it and get paid for it.
But if they didnt want to pay me for it then dont. But Im taking it anyway.

Told one boss. "You are my boss NOT my master."

Now if the company or boss had always been good to me I was alot more inclined to bite the bullet and be accommodating. I've always beleived in loyalty flowing in two directions.
But most companies these days look at their employees as nothing more then a number on a payroll sheet yet expect their employees to show them loyalty but not to have to show any in return.

and they like to use the old "There are people that would take your job in a minute, we can get rid of you and have you replaced tomorrow if we want to" line as a weapon.
To which my responce has always been ""Go ahead, What, do you think I'll never find another job like this? I was looking for a job when I found this one wasnt I?"
Funny thing is I've never had anyone take me up on that offer.
So much for all those people waiting in line wanting my job I guess. LOL

Anyway. If the people have been good to you and remember the things you do for em,then bite the bullet and down the road it will have been worth it.

But if your just a number, then the hell with em. You have a life to live too.
And if your unhappy working where you are then look for something else and get the hell out of there. Your biggest problem is simply getting another job. Most people who hate their jobs stay where they are for no other reason then because they are used to going to the same place every day and are afraid to change. Afraid of the unknown.
what they dont get is simply by the fact they already have a job they are in a good position to find a better one. They dont have to settle for yet another job they will hate simply to be able to say they have a job.
You gotta go for it. If you dont you'll never get it.

Well Dred,

Its my last day of my four day stint. But, I didnt request the 4th off. Its my regularly scheduled day off. I work 4 on 2 off.

Really debating hard over it, Im gonna approach her very politley, to see if anything can be done. Beleive me if anybody's on my side at work it is my Boss. Unfortunatley, With her stern response this morning, I dont think she will change her mind.

We've talked about how this company treats thier employee's. And Im really glad for her that she is resigning, I know under her typical facial expression, she is all smiles.

What I dont want to do, is force the employee that requested the 4th off to work, Once again my courteousness shows. But taking my scheduled day off from and giving it to someone else for PTO is BS!

I hate to let people down, especially when youve worked your arse off with them, and shared the same mundane BS day in and day out. But I really dont know If I can continue working there.

But a poor mans made out of Muscle and Blood...

Dred nailed it pretty good. Words to Work by.

I had a boss that was a stuffed shirt about time off. I called in sick (stomach virus) once, and he said, 'when you return to work bring a note from your doctor'.

So, I did. Along with the bill for the doctors visit. This really set him off.. 'that I should be so bold'. I started looking for another job. When I found one, I called in 'well'.

He said 'What'? I said, "Yep, today I feel great! Been sick of you and your sorry job ever since I caught yer wife's stomach virus but today I feel pretty good, so I'm not gonna come in and let you mess it up. Cya!"

Nef,

You had a regularly scheduled day off that they changed a few days before it happens?

I say BS, talk to your boss about it again.  Be careful to use any accusatory tones, do not blame her in any way.  Simply explain that you had made family plans weeks in advance that are very important to you.

Good luck with her.

I love the company I work for.  Since we are doing so good the CEO is letting everyone have Friday, July 1st, off.  This way it will be a 4 day weekend.  Also a new policy has automatic 3 weeks vacation as soon as you start employment.  Well, you build up vacation at a 3 week a year rate (10 hours a month).

Best job I ever had!!!   :)

LMAO at one job I didnt particularly like I called in and took a "sick of work day"
the secretary just laughed and put me in for it.

She liked the idea so much she told me did the same thing the very next day.

Another time I called out sick cause of "Bassitius"
The next day hen she asked what that was I told her ..
"Its an affliction which effects the right elbow and shoulder and left wrist and can only be cured by either standing on a shoreline or sitting in a boat and going like this ::Making a casting and reeling motion::.

She laughed and said I was nuts. I told her "you just now figured that out?"

you got it bad?

i am an on-site contractor for a big copier company. we do on site printing, and managment of machines across campus.

well, we have many of these across the nation, and in my area (probably 30-40 in milwaukee alone)

we are losing / closing 2 major, long time accounts the end of this month, and the people there will have nowhere to go. next month another closes, with 5 people attached. just heard news about another account being lost with 4 people, not sure when.

my contract is up next may, and the sales rep is about to be fired. the client is major PO'd because we haven't billed them properly since last setember, and now the sales rep is messing up. needless to say we will probably lose this account (that i am the on site in charge of). they love me here (the client does) love what i do, and have no problems with my co-workers, but they hate the corporation, sick of the billing, and the sales rep can't follow a simple rule:

"don't POP in to the director of purchasing's office without an appointment."

seems he likes to just show up when in the area to chat, and see if they have looked at his proposal for a renewal of a contract.

they have now hired an assistant to watch the door to the office so no one gets past without an appointment because of this butt hole.

i have to wonder if i have a job in the next 9 months because some bellybutton can't understand that a director of a department at a large hospital can't just "chat" whenever he is in the area.

my company is falling to pieces, and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

Wanna Hear something crazy? Actually a bit more Ironic.

First I have to describe my situation a little better.

I work in a nursing and rehabilitation center, The Dietary department consists of Nine Workers, Plus one Supervisor. Three Cooks, and Six Aides. The workers are rotated Four days on and Two days off, And there are Two Shifts a day. So I work with the same people every time. So you could imagine my thrilling workday, Noon to Eight PM.

Your probably asking, What happens when someone calls off or requests off? Well, in comes the PRN's, Part time employees, I refer to them as Call Girls. These workers are only scheduled on days we call off, or all called in to fill in for workers who call in sick.

Well, most of the call girls, work for a very short time. Seriously, Id say, the average PRN works for less than 2 or 3 months. Then they pull there hair out and quit.

So....

Back to Events today.

I return to work, at Noon Today. We had the Worst In-Service ever, Saftey with Chemicals and proper refridgeraton procedures. It ends with the public announcement of my boss's resignation.

Around ten minutes to One, I begin to wonder where my third and final Aide is. Its our other Call Girl. (Our Other PRN, Quit four days ago). One minute after One, the call goes out, Voicemail.

An Aide from the morning shift stays for thirty minutes, After One Hour, My Poor old boss is washing the dishes of Nearly 100 Residents, I Work, singing my Merle Travis very low, Baking two enourmous cakes.

Then I step outside for a much needed Ciggarette, Buts it no relief, its 94 Degrees outside, with shirt melting humidity. No relief inside either despite AC, Three large ovens and Boiling Water cancel it out.

Then all of a sudden, The Large Girl from the Bingo Department, is washing Dishes. And then Mother Shahan from the morning shift arrives to help serve supper.

I confronted my boss before she left around Four Thirty, she was going over the schedule. We talked, as she white-outed the Red Check Marks for PTO Days.

Way it turns out is, The Woman that had requested her day off lost her day and I was given mine back since her day was cancelled. Not only that, Other people lost there days further in July.

Doesnt make a difference to me since Ive never taken a PTO day.:D I picked up a few extra days, but I kept my Fourth After All.

ever felt the urge to run around your workplace naked peeing over everything and everyone?
that's how I feel every ****ing day.
What kept me going through the day today was imagining that I was floating around the place, propelled by farts, peeing on everyone from above and occasionally getting bottles of water from sympathetic coworkers to replenish my stores, and cans of beans as fuel for my 'jets'. and the nasty coworkers would get a golden shower or a stinky bomb.
you can imagine how much I love my job. :p

Very colourful, spitfire. I wouldn't go that far but I hate my job as much. But the one good thing is that big blue decided to close us down and give all our jobs to some nice people in Singapore who don't even work for the company.

We all had the option to stay and transfer to other parts of the facility. But of the 480 people working here. 400 applied to go. The severance deal is crap but hey it's better than working here. Meanwhile it's great to work in a place that's closing down.  Every time someone asks you do something. You say 'Why, we're closing down anyway?' Some people are living in cloud cuckoo land though. Still running like headless chickens thinking they have important jobs. In fact they have no job.

It's like Hitler's bunker in '45. The Russians (Singaporeans) are in the city. It's all over but some people act like they can save the day or something. One supervisor warned a woman about her breaks. It was her last night in the job!
