In my short time off so far...as I figured..Id spend alot of it thinking about AH. As I pondered different ideas about the gameplay, one of the things that came to mind is the idea of porking troops. It takes a concerted effort by a team to gain air supremacy, and to get the bombers there to level a base/town. But..it only takes 1 guy to grab a 190 and pork every base around it to shut off the ability to capture the base.
Where it is tough at times to get a guy to jump in a c47 to try for a capture..its almost impossible to get a guy to fly 3 bases back to where troops are available to try it. So I thought the following may be a cool idea. First..anyone who captures a base, should get a good perk bonus, that he can dump into whatever catagory he wishes, if the capture is a success. Secondly, rather than having troops porked out of existance, make it so a base that has had its barracks destroyed, only have the affect of a 1/2 load of troops. In other words..a base that has a destroyed barracks can still spawn c47s with troops, but it takes twice as many to capture a base.
I feel this would eliminate the downtime, or that stale moment of time that exists, in between a good attack, and then once the troops are porked, everyone loses interest, leaves, and starts the process over at some other base.
Another thing I was thinking about was the FH/BH/VH situation. As it is now, 1 bomber can eliminate the FHs of a small base shutting off all fighters. This makes for the following. The fighter guys on your team, have no one to shoot at for 15 minutes or so.( Maybe its 10 minutes. Not sure on downtime.) However, the bomber may take them down, but the short time it takes to have the FH regen, it almost becomes pointless.
What I would like to see, is the game slow down a bit. By making the FH/BH/VH harder. Rather than 3000 lbs of bombs killing an FH, triple it. Or even more. And...once it is down..it stays down for 30 minutes. Its tougher to kill..but once you do, the reward is the larger downtime window, in order to plan followup attacks. But...it doesnt stop there. Rather than killing all the FHS and shutting down all fighter spawns..the following could happen.
FH- 1/3 of FHs destroyed= No fighter with ENY above 20 may launch
FH- 2/3 of FHs destroyed= No fighter with ENY above 40 may launch
FH- All FHs destroyed= Only fighters with the highest ENY values may launch (whatever threshold would work best)
By simply losing all its FHs the base would never be totally shut down. It would take more.
All the fuel, ammo bunkers, troops, and tower..along with all its FHs would be the only way to shut down all the fighters totally. But..like other structures, they too would be hardened so they would require 1000 lb bombs to be destroyed..not the occassional pork/strafe.
The BHs would be similar. If 1/2 the BHs are destroyed..it allows no heavy bombers to spawn. If all are destroyed, then only the lightest bombers may up. And like the FHs, there would always be bombers available (even if very light) to carry on the fight, unless all the strats are also destroyed..at which point there would be no bombers available.
The VH would be the same. Only the lightest unit being available if the VH is destroyed. (Like an M3 or something along those lines)
You may say "What would stop a group of guys from upping, and killing just 1/3 of the FHs 3 bases deep into enemy territory..in affect porking first line aircraft." Well..Im no computer guy, but maybe they could make it so, that any base, not ajacent to an enemy base, the damage thresholds are multiplied. So..if base A3 launches an attack on base A4 to the east..the damage is normal..but if they pressed the attack further east to A5 as well, instead of the normal damage levels, it would take twice as much ord to kill a structure..and so on.
Also...as far as the towns are concerned..Id rather see their destruction be caused by bombs rather than strafing.
These are just some things Ive been thinking about, that might make guys form missions, AND have the time to follow up on them with more missions. Instead of the standard stuff of launching a mission, and having all its effects repaired even before they rtb. Plus it would deepen the gameplay, and keep fights going on...with planes we rarely see at times.
