Charges Against Teen Upgraded After Dog He Allegedly Raped Dies
Jun 23, 2005, 1:01 PM
Cory Williamson, 17, is in jail accused of raping his neighbor's dog; and is awaiting trial on charges of molesting a 3-year-old girl and the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Princess was allegedly raped by Cory Williamson, 17, two weeks ago. Now the dog has died and charges against Williamson have been upgraded.
Sylvia Jones says Princess wouldn't eat or play anymore after the attack. "She (Princess) couldn't even sit down, her bottom was swollen sore."

SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina News) - A Campobello teen is accused of raping one neighbor's dog and another neighbor's two little girls. Now the dog has died and charges against the teen have been upgraded.

After receiving word that the dog died possibly because of the rape. Fox Carolina called the Solicitor's office to see if now new charges would be filed against the teen. An hour later Solicitor Trey Gowdy called to say that the charges will be upgraded to the "most serious animal cruelty charges they have on the books."

The dog's owner Sylvia Jones says, "At first when it happened, I couldn't eat or sleep every morning I'm waking up thinking Princess is there but she's not.

Princess's little dog house is empty now. Sylvia Jones says she died of internal bleeding this past Sunday because of the rape. "The vet told me she had a little blood in her urine and that she was bleeding inside."

Sylvia says she and her husband would not have believed Cory Williamson raped Princess exactly two weeks to the day she died had they not seen it with their own eyes.

"When I got here we were laying on the deck looking at him and he had his pants down and he was doing sexual activity with the dog like a man would do to a woman."

The Jones family says Princess wouldn't eat or play anymore after the attack. "She (Princess) couldn't even sit down, her bottom was swollen sore."

Sylvia says she knows Princess was just a dog, but she wants people to know that Princess was also a part of her family. A family that now has been forever changed. "She looked so pitiful. It's sad, there was nothing I could do for her."

Neighbors worry that if Williamson is accused of raping a dog and molesting two girls in the same neighborhood, who knows what might happen next.

Neighbor Bill Johnson says, "As a community we shouldn't have to watch our kids every second they're playing. We want him out of this neighborhood."

The Solicitor's office says it wants to make sure Williamson is out of this neighborhood while he's awaiting trial on the molestation and dog rape charges so they are requesting that his bond be revoked. Williamson's bond hearing will be held next Friday.

Yup.

Fox News needs a wakeup call.. the kids are more important than the dog.

Dog bites man is not news, man bites dog is news.

Unfortunately Hangtime, while the kids are indeed more important than a dog, molestation of children is not news.  It happens far too frequently to be a headline.

Man rapes dog to death is news.

I wonder what's the reason for publishing such "news"? Public entertainment? If so - IMHO there is something really wrong in the society.

Forget the dog. He raped two girls and wasn't locked up?...

Focusing on feelings of a dog owner is beyond my understanding. Humans were hurt, and they talk about dogs!

"most serious animal cruelty charges they have on the books." - are they insane?!

Castration?  What's the point in that.  Just put him down, and be done with it.

society if anything could recoup something from him, he'd be good for a few watts.

I think the author of that article and an official talking about "crime against animal" should share his fate.

Dog's more important then 13 years old girl raped? How comes that bastard is still in the "neighbourhood" and not in jail?! Maybe I don't understand official English used by lawers and he didn't rape girls, only "molested"? Maybe my dictionary has wrong meanings for "rape" and "molest"?...

Borada, I think you understand the terms correctly.

It is about exploitation.  For example, this thread would have never started had it not involved a dog.  Rapes happen everyday in some part of this country.

The 'shock' or 'wow' factor of this bit of reporting draws some people to it like flies to honey.

It's frightening. Dogs are finally more important then human kids.

If the motivation to focus on this crime was only to attract people to TV news -> earn more money, it is dangerous. In such cases, conserning mass-media I am for censorship. :( Next step is obvious: setting-up such affairs to get more public attention.

And mindset of the people who share this "girls get raped every day, look, here is a poor dog! Her owner can't sleep at night! what an incredible cruelty!" is IMHO wrong. They are morally corrupt or simply use TV as a brain-prothesic, and I don't know what is worse. This article could make a good story for "Their morals and manners" column in a Soviet-times newspaper. :(

Exploitation in the news is not new Borada.  Happens in Russia as well as here.

But I can only make comment about what is happening here.  It is all about ratings.  It has nothing to do with reporting news.

I really cannot explain why people allow themselves to be drawn to things like this.  I think it is an extremely sad commentary on our times.  To be sure, it is an epidemic in our country, and one without cure as far as I can tell.

The media certainly would not be doing this if it did not get them ratings.

Exactly. Look at the "MK" newspaper, that has the biggest circulation in Russia, in the bottom of the front page there is an "Urgent news" section. Look at the headlines: "Grandmother kills three grandchildren with a rolling-pin", "Underfed Tajik gastarbeiters practice cannibalism", "Two-years old girl commits suicide leaving a letter blaming Nelson Mandela", "Orthodox priest caught on satanic ritual rapes", "24 rotweilers get rabies after being bitten by a TV reporter" etc.

If only someone could show this newspaper to Soviet people in 1989...

Sort of like the summer where we had a record low number of shark attacks, yet the media played it like it was a record year of attacks...

Deja vu!
