I may be incorrect, but I think that Zeke was flown for investigation and comparison trials with the F6 to see how it would rate against it.

Quite a few US pilots flew it and they used it to develop tactics to defeat it's strengths and use it's weakness' for new pilots coming into combat against it.

Incorrect.

The Zero was captured on Saipan, the Zero was in use during April 1945 when it was sent to the 412th Fighter Group at Bakersfield, California.  Also Unit was respoinsible for training and trials on the new P-59 Aircomet and P-80 Shooting Star....the Zero was used in mock combat with new jet fighters to develop techniques.

all sides in WWII captured enemy vehicles and planes for evaluation. most (with the exeption of the germans) never used these vehicles in combat. this is especially true of americans. we have a tendency to insist that our equipment is the best if it sucks or not. (case in point: sherman)
