I just finished reading "Warriors of God" by James Reston.

It is a book about the crusades, specificaly the first thru the third crusade.  The book is a side by side biography of Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.

It was a very good read, I thought I knew quite a bit about the crusades but I did not.  If you have any interest in the subject I would recomend this book.  It is also a good read considering the times we are in when it comes to Muslim philosophy and interperations of Koran and what they mean to Muslims,
also it is a great book on battle tactics, stratagy, and political infighting between the various crusaders.  (who knew that Richard the Lionheart could have been called Richard the Rumpranger)

Moving on:

Now I need a book on Roman history post Ceaser or something leading up to Ceaser that continues to a later date.

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend anything by William Manchester.  I'm currently reading "The Arms of Krupp".  It is very interesting and opens alot of doors behind the beginnings of the industrial revolution.  It also sheds alot of light on the business of arms manufacturing.

I finished 2 books this past month:

A Time to Die: The Story of the Kursk Disaster

and

Red Storm Rising.

The book about the Kursk was particularly interesting because it delt with the political manuvering in trying to save the crewmembers of the sub and how pride got in the way of progress - essentially politics killing the surviving sailors.

Worth a read for the polysci type.
