CHiPs will add a new fleet...

PORCHE!!!

(don't have the link right now)

They'll start adding Porches on their fleet.

Not to bash California (my beloved former state) but Corvette is 2x cheaper for the same performance.

Maybe they are getting the station wagon model?  That thing would make a good cop car.

Urban cammo. If you wuz tooling along at 80 in your 'vette and saw a porsche crowding the rear sun deck, you'd probably boot the chevy a bit to open the distance. Then he's got yah over 90, reckless driving, lock up, impound... coupla days of doing that'll pay for the porsche in fines.

Did the same thing out here some years back with Mustang SVO's. County finally had the cops get rid of 'em.. some hotshot lawyer ripped 'em up.

Interesting the way they waste taxpayer money out there.

Thought Cali had financial problems.

If they can afford a fleet of Porches hell I wish I had such financial problems.

Considering how the article talked about mullets, it shouldn't take a genius to figure out that this isn't true.

Dunno about Boxsters but Walter Röhl drove Cayman S (basically a Boxter "Coupe") around Nordschleife in 8min 11secs.
That's 4 secs better than 911 Carrera and 7 secs better than Boxster S.

California Highway Patrol selects Porsche as 2006 pursuit vehicles
ATLANTA, June 27, 2005 - The California Highway Patrol has announced today that its is standardizing on the Porsche 987 Boxster as its 2006 pursuit vehicles to replace its aging fleet of Chevrolet Camaros.

CHP spokesman Officer Bruce Nowwegotcha said that after extensive testing the Porsche Boxster was found to have all of attributes necessary for a proper pursuit vehicle. "The Boxster has 2 trunks which allows us to stash all of our police stuff" Officer Nowwegotcha was quoted as saying. "The Camaros were at the end of their useful life, and were never able to be used fully given that CHP officers are prohibited from wearing mullets while on duty" he added.

The initial order for 200 Porsche Boxsters will be completed by the end of 2005 with the majority of units being placed in service in high enforcement areas.

Porsche Cars North America spokesman Lorna Gattasped said that the CHP contract represents a new market for Porsche in the US and expects other states to watch closely the CHP purchase (So... WHO'S NEXT?).

corvette may be cheaper, but all porshes handle better. this is due to their placement of the engine and the short wheel base.
