SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.
Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre.

However rather than sending people to sleep for years, then bringing them back to life to benefit from medical advances, the boffins would be happy to keep people in this state for just a few hours,

But even this should be enough to save lives such as battlefield casualties and victims of stabbings or gunshot wounds, who have suffered huge blood loss.

During the procedure blood is replaced with saline solution at a few degrees above zero. The dogs' body temperature drops to only 7C, compared with the usual 37C, inducing a state of hypothermia before death.

Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved.

Damaged blood vessels and tissues can then be repaired via surgery. The dogs are brought back to life by returning the blood to their bodies, giving them 100 per cent oxygen and applying electric shocks to restart their hearts.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.

"The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.

Can you imagine the ramifications of this?

Death is a natural thing and people are already living longer.  For a short moment of time, a few hours or days, it may be nice to say good bye to your family and friends though.

Henh. Would love to hear what the first guy they try this on has to say about the experience.

Maybe, we'll get some very interesting answers to some very, very old questions.
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

I just had this thought of trying the experiment on a willing Muslim, when the time comes to test it on humans.    One who is more than deserving of the seventy virgins waiting to serve him in the afterlife.

It'd be interesting to hear what he has to say upon his return to the living, no?

If this were done to a few humans representing most of the major cultures in the world...there would be very few wars afterwards.

PS: Or...anyone remember the movie Flatliners?

(Can't wait for the wailing of the Christian Extremists? Ought to be entertaining. Curious if they will say it is God's "will" that souls be yanked back from inside the Pearly Gates by mere mortals back on planer Earth in  brick and mortar insitutions  If they say it isn't God's will then how wil they admit human beans have the power to usurp God's will that someone has died and thier soul has moved on?  Do dog's have souls?)

Well, it's no worse than reverse engineering a flying saucer.  Think what it would be like to go inside and start fooling around with things.:D

My question is: If you believe in a spiritual afterlife, does the spirit then return to the body, assuming a successful restart. If so, from whence does it return, or do you really think God/ Satan is really gonna be all that eager to let the spirit go? Hmmmm? What do you think? For all you who don't belive in the spiritual this has got to look like very encouraging news.

Oboe,

On a certain level that idea sounds very intriguing. For a local "volunteer" how about the BTK hemorhoid?

Slimm,

Do you have any doubt that if God OR satan had a desire to "keep" the person that they could not? Who do you think would stop God?????

A couple of my sister's friends have been clinically dead, they are born again atheists.
