Awsome news.. for me at least.

2 fantastic Earnest K. Gann classics, lost to broadcast TV for better than 30 years have been remasterd/restored, and will air on AMC in the next few weeks.

I havent seen either for a very, very long time. Both starred John Wayne..

The High and the Mighty.. a DC-4, Transpacific for Hawaii blows an engine.. it's dangling precariously from the wing.. the Captain (Robert Stack) wants to ditch.. the broken down Co-Pilot, Wayne;, insists the bird can make it back to the mainland. Best airplane disaster movie I can recall ever seeing. The music is haunting.. the acting great.. damn my mind probably has it blown all outta perspective. The closing scene, with John Wayne limping off into the mist, leather Jacket over his shoulder.. damn I still whistle that tune when I'm trying to land. :)

Island in The Sky: A transport down in the arctic wastes, search parties trying to locate them, blizzard, whiteout. The surviviors huddled in the wreckage, cranking away on the hand generator (a gibson girl! Fer real!!) Can the search crews find them? Will they crash themselves? Will the crew make it out alive.. food, fuel.. heat running out...

Gawdamn, I can't believe my good luck that these two awsome movies based on excellent novels from one of the greatest avaition writers ever to put pen to paper... and John Wayne! LOL! Can't wait to see these again after so many years!!

It's AMC.. sometime mid July!

I saw The High and The Mighty before. Great movie. I loved the little "love tap" on the rudder at the end.
