bot beat by a bike...
« on: July 01, 2005, 08:29:11 AM »
About as bad as you would expect a low ten second bike to beat a low 12 sec car..  but it was fun.

Took the Healey to work and one of my guys had his pumped up suzuki 1000 with headers and tunner stuff on it...

After work we just lined up on the road and hit it... unfortunately.. just before that I picked up a rock between the fan and radiator and put a small hole in the radiator but said... hell with it lets go anyway.

He let me leave cause he knows my car gets a little squirely and the road was narrow.. even at that, I had to let out of first for a sec to staighten up... then he got on it and I got on it.... second gear granny shift and the friggin antifreeze was comming through the louvers on the hood and hitting my sunglasses... tach to 6500 in second and bang third... by about 6 grand I am drowning from the antifreeze and I can tell he is coming around anyway so I short shift at 6 grand in 4th and watch him go by...

He really kicked my butt but it was fun even with the hole in the radiator....  I was a little surprised and pleased that he couldn't pull on me in second and third.. sorta between 60mph and a little over 100mph...  if we had gone much past 120 I would have been lucky to keep him in sight till we hit 150 or so and then he woulda been gone  (I don't want to drive my car that fast anyway).

Oh well... as yu can see it doesn't take much to make us old farts happy... a little excietment..

I have ridden his bike and... I rode his old hybooosa and his Harley with the CNC heads.

I would rather drive the Healey than any of em but the Harley is pretty cool... I don't want to be seen on either of the sport bikes... they are fun once in a great while but I certainly wouldn't want to ride one for any distance or where I could be seen much less own one.

I kid him about the things all the time and he probly was very happy at the payback...  He is an old school Harley guy but is very up on his new hobby of these sport bike thingies.

I told him... that was fun bring your car to work and we will do it again...(he drives a 4 wheel toyota and a new chevy suv)

The guy has perspective.  he rides both the hot rod Harley and these hopped up neon jap thingies... goes to the races and buys all the latest gee whizz stuff.  has those hot rod 4 wheel motorcycles too.

His perspective on the whole thing is sensible and born of experiance.
