installing new mobo

Will be installing a new mobo in a few days.
Will be my first.
Any words of wisdom?? Tips?

Dont get frustrated if you have to do certain steps over again.  It happens to me every time.  

One thing I would do, if I were you.  Wait to put the power supply in until last.  Sometimes its hard to get the heatsink installed on certain motherboard/case combos if the PS is already there.  Plus, not having all those wires hanging in the way makes it alot easier to see what you are doing.  The PS is one of the easiest and most straightforward computer parts to install, so there's no reason to have it in the way too early.

Good point with PSU.
I also saw some thing about removing old bios, so there is no leftover commands i guess for the old mobo. Any comments about this? Not sure how this is done...

Don't let the smoke out

Take care when installing the heat sink on the processor.  Make sure it is seated well.  Double check your wires before powering up.

Lasher your new motherboard has it's own new BIOS.

Think your getting confused on what should be done after flashing a BIOS.

After mounting the new board have a good check around the mount posts holes for any possible shorts.

IDE cables - Blue connector to motherboard, black to primary IDE device, grey to secondary IDE device.

yep, new it had it's own bios.
Just saw a thread someone wrote about going into bios setup and removing old bios...

Kev, just what is flashing the bios... How is that defined?

When a new BIOS revision is released for a motherboard you have to overwrite (flash) the old BIOS with the new one.

My advice is get it professionally done. Mobos give me NOTHING but problems. I can install anything else on a computer but I refuse to attempt those anymore.

i ussualy install the cpu and heatsink while the mb is laying on my table .

then slip it carefully into the box . screw it down very lightly,  now make all the connections ,an add the cards .

check clearance on the cdrom and harddrives .

fire it up , enter the bios and set everything up ..

as for flashing the bios i dont do that unless its absolutly nessesary . if it works ok leave that the hell alone .

Thanks for the tips Rosco.
Clearances should be good, it is going to be esentially the
same board with the exception that it will have PCI-E x16 and
a PCI-E x1 slots added. Form factor same= microATX.
