..is learning to properly handle and aim your weapon. :)

Grandpa Gordie teaches his grandson Gordon how to properly aim and shoot just as he taught me 36 years ago.
Gordon actually hit 4 out of 20 clay pigeons, his first time shooting.





Of course 2 instructors are better than one, right? :)

That is what is needed to keep our firearms traditions alive and well.

Probly wouldn't hurt to get him some safety glasses... we didn't know any better in the old days but then.. we didn't use ear protection either and most  of us say "huh?" as the first answer to every question.

Sigh...had a single-shot 20 gauge exactly like that one as my first shotgun.  That was a sweet, uncomplicated, and deadly little squirrel gun.

I'll always treasure the times spent afield with my grandfather.

Your very welcome! As lazs points out, in America, its about tradition.

Funny thing is, I told him before he shot it alone, to focus on shooting ahead of his target just like in Aces High....he hit the very first skeet thrown. :)

Never shot skeet before.  They good to eat?  And why do you throw em?

Dad never throwed a quail for me to shoot at...had to kick the suckers up myself.

Went to my mother's family reunion two weeks ago.  (She's either a Lagrone or a Leggern, depending on whether you talk to city folk or country folk).

Spent the night with a first cousin.  He gave me a brand new, Remington bolt-action rifle in .260 caliber with 18 inch barrel with base for scope rings...and 6 boxes of ammo...simply because he had no occasion to use it and he wanted it to have a good home.

Did I mention he was my favorite cousin?

Oh, yeah, anyway.

Ear Plugs: Disposables with a 32Db NRR are available from Peltor, Howard Leight and EAR. I order the Leights in the handy 100 pack for about $15 wholesale.

Shooting Glasses: Got wacked right on the eyeball going through a head high field of native sunflowers two years ago. Got a little bitty tiny piece jammed up under my eyelid. Made the hunt miserable and didn't get it out until I got to a $200 eye doctor 5 days later. Buy some. USE them.

My current favs for the money: Peltor Fectoid kit. $20 retail, $14 wholesale. Comes with three interchangeable lenses.

Those are some great pics, Rip. Like Shuckins says, memories!

I bought a Savage single shot .22 for my son a couple of years ago and we've been enjoying range time together since. He's actually getting pretty good despite not fully growing into his rifle yet.

God, i can't stand shooting glasses.  I hate most glasses actually (except for a few sunglasses).

They distort the vision so much that I get dizzy.

So I don't wear safety glasses at all.
