Poll: Martin Lawrence - Funny or Not?
« on: July 05, 2005, 10:38:02 AM »
My wife and kids think Martin Lawrence is funny.

It seems to me that most people would agree.

OTOH, I don't think he's funny at all.

Is it THAT bad.. so bad that we are yet again reduced to discussing...

..black actors?

'cause black actors.. they gotta hang together.

"Is Wayne Brady gonna hafta choke-a-*****??"

ipso defacto if Chapelle is funny, Lawrence is funny.

'cause yer not allowed to discriminate between black actors.

"Run Tell 'Dat" was pretty funny, liked him in Bad Boys & Bad Boys 2. Not much beyond that.

Sorry... this morning, I was listening to "Mark & Brian" on KLOS and they were talking about movies this weekend. One of the movies this weekend is "Rebound" starring Martin Lawrence. Mark went on about how he didn't think Lawrence was funny.

he playes a funny charecter in "Boomerang"

the show "Martin" had a few funny moments in the early years, then it got all "ethnic" and tried to cover political / race / religion issues from what i remember. took himself and the show WAY to seriously. (i always thought the chick who played his wife on the show was hot for a black woman)

some of his early standup was pretty funny, not eddie murphy caliber, but pretty good.

nowadays... his overacting whines, and catch phrases are tired.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Funny.

Bad Boys & Blue Streak are great films.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

If over-use of cussing is funny, Chris Rock is much better at it.

Hangtime? I don't see what you're getting at?

Some people are funny, some are not.  Don't think the original poster meant anything to do about color.

Example:
Dave Chapelle-Funny(IMO)
Most comedians on ComicView: Not funny at all simply because they use tired old jokes that everyone has heard before. "It woulda been alot different if there were black people on the Titanic"

I have always failed to see the big deal about Chris Rock.
I mean he's ok but he aint all that.

Same thing with Lawrence.

Chapelle IS funny.
Better then both Lawrence and Rock put together at their very best hands down aint even a close contest.

Martin Lawrence- Not funny, not even close.

Dave Chappelle- Funniest comedian on the planet.
