Ok i don't use layers to drop shadow i use black and white.

Black below white above thats as real as it gets :p

Use gaussian to get the effect

i used psp7 for rivits ..i find psp7 best for rivits ( i use psp8 and photoshop also but only psp7 for rivits) i use 1 pixal vector line set to dash.. after they are all done i raster them then use drop shadow( i use a pale yellow shadow) then i give a slight gaus blur. i select areas and set mode to difference/ soft light and so on then just fiddle with the opacity..thats all
