Ok tried to show this earlier but my "wearing" technique was way to bad then..

so here it is in a new version...

a metal plane with paint on top and then paint worn of to expose "true" metal underneath....

what do you guys think?

Looks great to me. I especially like the fact that it varies and is not just a brush run along the panel lines and rivets. Gives it more of an authentic look.

Its more or less one brush (actually two) but I use alot of altering of brush angle, spacing, scattering and other effects...

I see.

The only thing I see now is that I would add more chips around the canopy slide. With the canopy going back and forth so much, one would only assume that its going to get some wear.

niiice, if you alter the paint in some areas(lighter or darker) it would look really good

That looks like 5-10 years of wear. It almost reminds me of some of the oxidized paint I see on some American cars from the 70s and 80s, except it's too concentrated.

Just a thought, the paint will peel from the direction of airflow
usually..ie front to back. High traffic areas like kick steps or the
wing where the pilot gets to the cockpit also will be heavy.

Admittedly the civilian planes I see now rarely get this heavily
weathered, but I haven't noticed the paint chipping that
extensively along the rivet lines. You'll also get some nice
weathering/chipping along inspection and gun bay panels.

i believe civillian airlines these day use a different short of paint that has a kinda plastic like texture to it which makes it longer lasting

Actually, sometimes Japanese paint really was that bad.
