although i never fly them and love the easy burning of the b24.

Its not known as the flying zippo it burns way too easily compared to other bombers.

Even the zero is more fire resist.

Last night I found a formation of LANCs... on the first pass, I am certain I landed at least 1 second of hits on the number 2 engine and wing-root. I think I saw a flap come off, but no fire.

The pilot must have been a horrible gunner, because for the next 3 or 4 minutes I kept making passes on the LANCs and kept scoring hits all over them.

Finnaly, I managed to shoot down all 3 of the formation, taking over 3/4 of my P-51Ds 1800 rounds. Not one of the LANCs burst into flames... 2 of them finally died when the entire rear fuse broke loose, and the final when the left wing came off at the root.

I wonder if this B24 problem has been addressed in this latest release. I'll have to find a B24 formation to find out.

API rounds -

Mk IV - 1 in 10 chance of starting fire.
Mk VI - 1 in 5 chance of starting fire.

HOWEVER -
Check out these standard loadouts for Spits as an example:

Spit 1 – 3 guns ball, 2 guns AP, 2 Guns Mk IV incendiary tracer, 1 Gun Mk VI incendiary.
Spit 1 (alt) – 4 Guns ball, 2 Guns AP, 2 Mk VI incendiary.

With 4x.303 only – 2 Guns AP, 2 Guns Mk VI incendiary.

So not all guns had API loaded.
Plus I don't beleive API are modelled.

So this means what in relation to the B24 catching fire and the LANC not, both shot by P-51D?

I've always said that B24's catch fire too easily, and it's something that should be looked at.

The B24 in real life was known for catching on fire, and the slender wings folding, the B24 was not as tough as the B17 thats just the way it was.I'm sure thats why htc modeled it that way.;)

p51s should set other planes on fire alittle easier then other planes can...btw i cant change the ammo setting in the p51 if i hit / it stays at 800 and 1080 or something

and even if your not in a p51 a b24 will set on fire with anay plane shooting at it

~S~ All!
Actually the B-24 was really called the Flying Coffin, because it couldnt take the battle damage like the B-17 could. It didnt take many hits to set the Fuel tanks a fire because of the way the fuel tanks were design in the B-24.
