Trees
« on: July 09, 2005, 05:29:45 PM »
now we all compained about the height of trees and the depth and whatever, and skuzzy explained the reasons that they need to be kept that way. this being said, i came up with an idea last night, thatll save a lot of wing tips :)

can we make the trees darker???

a little more visibilty will make such a difference. the trees as they are are far too light-greeney coloured, which isnt how they are in real life. darker trees would be easier to navigate through, and would make the scenery look so much better, and all that needs done is a quick 10 minute change to the tree template (i might be wrong here though)

any thoughts?

Agreed. The trees blend in too much.
And those pesky lil buggers in extended runway vectors..........

I agree. Trees and some of the ground have a very ugly puke green color to them.

The only problem with the trees I have is that I think they should be moved farther away from the fields.  Since the trees have been implemented I have lost at least 3-5 262s and many other planes and many kills.  Trying to take off in the 262 with the trees so close is hard especially in front of hills and landing can be hard with 262s trying to make over the trees and being able to land with what runway is left after touching the runway.

Screw losing 262's, my precious 109's lose their wings on the descent. Now I have to resort to either doing a split-S and bellying it on the runway or coming in on a high angle to miss the trees and hopefully come to a stop.

I can see that trees are effective for GVs, but I say clear them out at least a K or two.

I see it this way:
at least on medium and large airfields there should be no trees/scrub at all in the extensions of runways. Logic dictates that those would have been cut down to ensure safe passage for medium and heavy bombers on take off and landing, or jets for that matter.

i actually believe this will be hard to do. skuzzy said that the trees are designed to cover a specific area, and i think they may actually have it as a random thing, with like 15% of land covered randomly. removing single trees may be harder than it looks

Hmmm but when you plant an airfield, there is a void created for it. Wouldnt it be relatively esay to make a half mile extension of the runway invisible/grass/ground colored? So to speak a flattened lane of grass preceeding and extending the runway...

just thinking out loud... That way the terrain engine wouldnt be able to create trees there.

ht has such a way of explaining something with very few words:lol

i remember talking to skuzzy about it, and IIRC, they dont place the trees, they are random. the only place you will not get a tree is ON the field. it is only by coinicidence that there is always a lone pesky tree in the way:D

if it wasnt done this way, they'd have to place the trees manually, which would replace the 2 weeks tod joke with a 2 years tod joke:rolleyes:
