HSI X800XL Video Card: Will it fit in my computer?

Hello All, I just ordered a new PC for the first time in probably 5 years (last one was a 1.5ghz pentium)

I don't plan on keeping the video card that comes with the pc (the ATI X300SE), but rather want to buy the HSI X800XL video card to put in it.

However, I have read where the HSI card, with all its big cooling system, won't fit in some PC's. Has anyone had this problem?

I ordered a Dell Dimension 4700 if that helps. Don't know how much "space in the case" there will be....

Wait till you have the comp, they are easy to open and look inside if it fits. You have to look if there is anything obstructing the space next to the slot and if it has enough length and thikness space. Where the first one is harder to gues, often condensators or other electronic soldiered on the board is to close to the pcie slot for the backside cooler of the graphics card.

If you get the card from a local shop you can bring your comp to them and try out if it fits.

Also, when you have it check the power supply how much power it delivers on the 12V rail and how much overall. Chances are its a bit small for the graphic card. Also depends on which CPU you have and which other goodies.

I am pretty sure that you loose your dell warenty with changing out your card. So as soon as you tell dell that you changed the graphics board all the warranties are gone. Remember that.

It should not be a length issue as that card is shorter than most cards available.

It does take two slots in the computer.  You just need to be sure the slot next to the AGP/PCI-E slot is free and clear of obstructions.

Also, the 800XL does not have an external power connector as its power draw is less than the AGP/PCI-E spec.

Are you refering to  x800xl based cards in gerneral? The Card I am refering to has, at least to my eye, a huge cooling aparatus.
I am specifically asking about this card manufactured by a company called HIS :

That card has an elegant cooling solution with a large fan that draws air from near the front of the computer, passes it over the graphic chip, and expels it out the back of the case, thereby dumping the GPU heat outside the case.  It's longer than most cards and clearance with capacitors etc on the mobo can be an issue.

The HIS Cooler (Artic Cooling supplies it) is the same height as the video card.  It does occupy two slots due to the width (looking down from the top).

Due to the fan hanging off the back of the card it makes the ATI card longer, but motherboard clearances should not be an issue as fan is mounted higher from the motherboard.

The only issue you would have is 1) if you are using an SFF case or 2) if you have something occupying the slot closest to the AGP/PCI-E slot,

I removed my stock HSF from my X800XT-PE and put an Artic Cooling 5 HSF in place of it and had no issues at all with fit.  Not only does it exhaust the heat out the back of the case, it is a very quiet solution.  Much quieter than the stock ATI HSF, and it cools better.

Coyo... I work for Dell and just checked the chassis and motherboard on that particular system and it does have several expansion slots that may accomidate that video card. This system uses the 212ut or mytac chassis which is considdered a small mini tower. As Skuzzy mentioned above.... the main problem that may arrise is that if you have more than one pci card in your system and one of them is in the pci slot directly below the video card it will have to be moved down to the next lower slot and this may cause an IRQ conflict. Only way to find out is to try it and see. If you do get an irq conflict just email me and Ill try to help you reset them. dalosiman@msn.com
