Here's a tip - go offline and turn off tracers and turn plane ammo lethality up to a hundred. Go shoot the drones from all types of angles and you will begin to visualize the bullet stream without tracers. Gradually turn down the lethality to normal, and you'll be WildThing in 3 weeks. I guarantee it :D

Seriously - its a good exercise to learn to visualize the bullet stream without tracers.

Turn them off for a few months and you won't want them back on.  I find tracers do two bad things to me:

1.  Clutter up my screen (it's already hard enough to see the enemy against certain terrain/lighting)

2.  Warn the enemy that I'm behind them if I blow my shot, and warn them where I'm shooting if I'm pulling the trigger a bit too soon on a deflection shot.  Neither one is good.

Off and I could care less if an enemy notices me D400 off their 6.  I seem to hit moving targets (ie the tops of planes) better than the dead 6 shots.  Also you won't try to "walk" your tracers to the target.  You will start out shooting at the point you visualize the bullet stream hitting the target.  Took a little while to get used to it, but I won't go back to tracers on now.

I am sure they did Moil but this is just a AH question (I hope) ;)

I disagree.  You should never use tracers to see where your bullets go.  You should already know where they are going to go, or you should at least have a rough estimate of where they are going to go based on where you aimed.

In other words, the key to better aim is to begin using the gunsight rather than the tracers to hit your target.  It's a gun, not a hose.

Well, my default answer is ON... I really hate not seeing you.

But I've read this thread and I may try it... see if I can do well without them.  Might be worth it if I can make it pay.

When I turned them off - my accuracy actually improved and I was finally able to disable the turrents on Osty's. COuldn't before with all the crap cluttering up the screen.

Off, you get a better feel for your guns and rather than letting the bullets gauge your aiming, its your senses.

I can visualize the tracers myself and they're just miniature Ryan Stiles doing his John Wayne impression...hundreds of them.

Yes. And no. On both accounts IMHO. True that those tracers clutter your screen half the time, without really helping. (BTW i got them turned off in HurrMk1... way too many of them). And true that you should know where the bullets go before pulling trigger.

But... ive missed tracers on two accounts:

First, when you carefully pull into a gun solution, select the lead and all that. Then you shoot, and miss completly. Sometimes its difficult do decide if the shot missed because of too little or too much lead. (For me strangely its too much most times)

The second is when i come off D600-800 of an enemys six. Sometimes the tracers can 'scare' him into moving/turning instead of doing the save thing and keep going straight.
21 is only half the truth.

Tracers off really helps on gvs. Hitting them with tracers off is much easier.

Other than that i tend to say alternating it for a while is not bad at all, with tracers off i sometimes dont know why i missed, with on i tend to fire to long bursts.

Im pretty sure some pilots opted not to load their planes with tracers. At least ive heard that on more than one occasion.
