USAF bans people from London

No intention of starting a flame war here, i respect and thank  Americans for the support shown to us.

However, if i was American, i would be absolutely ashamed of the decision (yes i know it was overturned eventually) from above that the USAF at Mildenhall and Lakenheath would be banned from visiting London for their safety.

That is completely the wrong message that needs to be sent out at this time and whoever made the decision to order that should be promptly shipped out.

Stupid point, but...I remember a little piece of paper I signed with the USMC that basically said "what you are doing is going to be high risk, and could involve some amount of danger."

If the JAG corps really had its way, we'd have a military that is more pussified then effective.

What the military does is assess risk, assign a worst case scenario and then plan out ways to minimise impact. Example: "If a nuke went off in London, would we be able to maintain our critical operations with XXX number of personnel IN London on any given day.."

Skilled, trained airmen are a precious commodity at the current time. No doubt some noob logistics guy decided that 'at risk' areas would be off limits to protect their TO&E's.

Hell; back in my day we wern't even allowed off base in uniform.. in our OWN damn country.

Not banned, they just need to have permission. There are many places around the world, including in the US where US sevice men are not allowed out of the gates without permission. But in my experience the Air force has allways been quick to do things like this.

One place I was at, the installation had an outgoing air force commander, you couldn't leave post without a weapon and an approved pass or leave. The oncoming commander was Army , one of the first things he did was reverse that policy.

Umm this has already been lifted. And I dont see why it should be a surprise that they played it safe.

The US military has rescinded an order to its personnel to avoid London in the aftermath of the bombings.

But he emphasised that the decision was taken locally in the immediate aftermath of the bombings, when many companies were telling staff to stay out of central London because of the confusion and the need to leave emergency services unhindered.

The US embassy said the order had been reviewed and had now been lifted.
