yup.

I've never heard of a designated version of an F16 as a jammer but the F4Gs were retired after GW1 with out a replacement in the USAF.

now all those missions go to navy EA6Bs

F-111's are still active with the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force).

F-4G Phantom Wild Weasels were retired in the mid 90's from active duty with the US Air force.  The mission has been taken over by the F-16CJ.

Mig-27 is a very large aeroplane. It could not be confused with most western planes by a long shot. The front wheel is almost as tall as a standing adult and the jet exhausts are big enough to walk in.

You are thinking of MiG-25.  23/27 is roughly F-18-sized.

27 is bigger than either 25 or 23 dummy. It's rougly half the size of 52. And those are gigantic.

Hmm I thought the MiG27 was the ground attack version of the MiG23. Never saw either in RL but thought them not to be big.

MiG31 maybe?
MiG27 has one engine, single exhaust.

Oh right sorry guys I did confuse it with Mig-25. The 27 is probably smaller even though it too looks pretty big on pictures, haven't seen one in real life.

I just googled MiG 31 and that has a relatively small front wheel. Just saw the MiG 25, that plane is huge.

Skydancer...I was in the USAF during the Lybian Crisis. I was on a SAC base. One day Im heading to the flightline snackshop (I was in CES...driving around doing service calls) and I see the red light on in the intersection. So I pull over and stop and the alert crews scream by me to their planes. I see the normal stuff...engines start up etc.

Then to my horror...and Ive seen alot of alerts, but this time they pulled the fences away and the tankers taxied to the end of the runway and took off. Then..as I shrunk into my 1978 Dodge 1 ton plastic seat I saw the B52s roll out onto the taxi way. All in a line ready to take off.

After a few minutes of looking up wondering if we had inbound nukes..thinking.."Well..atleast it would be quick!"...then rethinking how my luck normally runs..the MIRV would be a dud..and crash on the front of the truck crushing my legs...the buffs turned around and went back into the alert pad.

I had never seen it before..or after that day again. Scary stuff.

I've seen it in RL and even sat in it. It's just a bit larger than an F-16.

I thought I heard the American acquired some Soviet a/c  from East Germany when the Wall came down.

Also heard that the Americans also got some Soviet a/c from Isreal that they had captured.

The US got some MiG29s from Moldavia.

Could have been a Polish MiG-23, they're members of NATO now so could have been doing exercises in the US.

Incidently, when searching for MiG-23/27 on the internet, it mentions that these MiGs are often confused with the following aircraft: F-111, Tornado, Su-24 Fencer, Mirage F1, Super Etendard, Jaguar.  Since it was a NAS it could have been a Argentine Super Etendard since I do know that the US and Argentine Navy often conduct excercises together and allow aicraft to land on each others CVs.  Just a guess anyway.

I've seen the ground attack version of the MiG-23 (former East German) at the Flugwerft Schleißheim museum in Munich.  Very nice and smallish aircraft.

Here's a couple of pics I took of it:
