The terrain builder is the one controlling if there is a forest or a mountain at the end of the runway.  This is something I took into consideration when making the frac3 map.

As far as making half-mile extensions it is possible.  Two new object tiles (one for north/south, east/west runways and one for ne/sw, nw/se runways) could be made that don't allow the terrain to show through.  This is the same principle that the fields are currently using.  You don't see trees in the middle of an airfield that is sitting on a forest tile.  The terrain builder can place these new object tiles adjacent to the field tiles and rotate them so they clear the trees from the ends of the runways.  This may or may not be easy, but it is doable.

Of course that is a little off topic from changing the color of the trees.

WOuld this be a solution?

Could the size of the airfield "package" be expanded so the tile includes aset amount of surrounding, apparently uninvolved terrain? That way FOR THAT SPECIFIC zone, teh tree placement is nonrandom and the runway extensions would be clear.

Just a thought. The only coding I do depends on a ring I found in a cereal box....

The only way it could be done with the current system is to put custom squares  in the 8 surronding 1 mile tiles of the airport. This also has the effect of making the the ground flat for 9 square miles.

Most can be aliveated by just changing the tile type of the terrains cells surronding the air port.

Lumberjack Song

I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night. I work all day.

Mounties : He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Mounties: He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
               He goes to the lavatory.
               On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars.

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
                He puts on women's clothing
                And hangs around in bars?!

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Mama

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
                Suspendies, and a bra?!

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

             Yes, I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) ok-a-y.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

well this is what i was talking about. it will be time consuming and a little weird lookin to edit the terrain, so just make the trees more visible by darkening them, problem solved. i will give £10 to anyone who goes and flies in the ta low. you WIL knock a wing off, and you will realise that it wasnt the tree placement, but the visiblity that breaks ya wing off. easy and fast, darken the trees:aok

Am I the only one that never has problems with the trees?

I sometimes crash into em but at no more feequency then I do the ground from time to time. and when I do I usually see its about to happen just too late or too far out of control to do anything about it just as what happens form time to time when I auger into the ground or water.

I never not once have had problems taking off. If I see trees at the end of the runway and I dont think I can clear em. I take a different runway. Just as I would if a mountain was in the way and just the way they would have done in RL.

I fly between em around em and practically in em and have yet to have crashed into one while intentionally weaving in and out of them.

you folks really need to stop whining about the trees and just learn how to deal with em. Just asI have.
and its not like I have a hotrod system either cause I dont.
Its probably lower end middle of the pack by todays standards

this isnt a whine, it was a serious request to htc, just to darken the tree template. the scenery will look better, and the trees will be easier to see(stops people whining, and also helps, because at the moment, the trees are very similar in colour to the ground)
