Did not play as a corps yet.
the choice is random BTW.

Anyway, lookie, lookie:

http://www.flagsofourfathers.net

and

http://www.hafnir.is

pic, if it works:

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

From seeing what MoH Pacific Assault did with the landing at Tarawa, this should be about 10X more grand what with it being Iwo Jima and all...

Aircraft played a significant role in the conquest of Iwo.
First it was bombed, but with rather little effect.
It was the Navy attack aircraft, mostly F6F's I understand, that were most useful, using Napalm, bombs and rockets to bust many of the hundreds of bunkers and nests that wer scattered all over the island.
We did not have any aircraft over here...yet.
Anything else is quite original. My whole gear for instance is all 40's, Just have my own panthies and that's it. Got to lob around 12 hrs a day in full uniform, with helmet, leggings, ammo belt which is promtly stamped "1942", military boots from the same time, a rucksack with a shovel and the pride, an authentic Tommy gun, muhahahaha.
There are all those Higgins boats, LVT's and Shermans, as well as Howitsers up to 105 mm (noisy bastards). But no aircraft.
AFAIK Eastwood is trying to make this as authentic as possible, but a squadron of F6F's on the scene is perhaps asking a wee too much.
Anyway, the project rocks, - big time.

Iwo Jima is owned by the United States. The United States Coast Guard had a LORAN station there for many years. I know several people that were station there. The LORAN station was closed and the 1200ft tower destroyed in the late 80's early 90's time frame. Being station there was considered isolated duty. 1 year tour with a 3 week leave in the middle.

You are correct that visitors are limited.

I can see it now...just for a second or two, some guy having a shell explode in front of him and flying through the air like one of those retarded Ninja movies with all his arms and legs flying around. :rofl :rofl :rofl

They will probably be 3D.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

More shots.
They used a lot of explosives on the set, so sometimes the debris was literally raining all over.
A good thing, the steel helmet ;)
Enjoy!
