Yeah, some pilots retained the fixed graticule sight because they didn't want to have to track the target for the second or so that it took for the sight computer to adjust the amount of "aim off". However, for the "average" pilot, it was said that the gyro gunsight doubled his effectiveness. During tracking, the pilot had to set the wingspan of the target aircraft on the graticule so that the diamonds enclosed the enemy aircraft, allowing correct computation. A bit fiddly. Maybe an option to have or not to have would be an answer.
Probably better to learn how to judge correct deflection.
