Onboard sound or card?

Check in the device manager for items with yellow question marks.

You might want to open control panel, sounds/speech/audio devices and then click on the sound help file and just run through the troubleshooter there...you never know

If it's a dell and the drivers won't install, they recommend booting to safe mode and installing the drivers while in safe mode.  The card will be detected upon reboot.

At least that's what they told me when I had problems with my Dad's soundblaster not being detected.

Try using the original soundcard installation CD instead of driver updates.  That might work too.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Ran thru the troubleshooter a few times,,,no joy

Kev,,I did see two of those yellow question mark icons in the device manager, not sure what to do ,,,,ill fiddle with em when i get home from work

On a positive note,,,the computer problem probably saved my house,,,,as it was a power problem in the house,,,and the wiring in the circuit breaker box was about to start a fire

If you have yellow exclamation marks they are prob the soundblaster.
Just find the soundblaster install prog on your cd and double click it. Should install the drivers and app then ask you to reboot.

Oh, cracking on with the P47 :)

Cooley, a small piece of advise for you.

Once you do get it all back, don't forget to back up your AH settings folder.

Burn that puppy to a CD and don't lose it.
