Can't connect
« on: July 20, 2005, 11:04:44 PM »
Last night I downloaded the patch 2.04. Then for over two hours I tried repeatedly to connect, but couldn't. The timer just keeps ticking away. Worse, whenever I click on "quit" my computer locks up and I have to hit the reset button.

Aces High was working fine every time up until now. Is this a common problem with the new patch? or should I reinstall Aces High?, or was the server down, or what?

BTW it works fine offline.

Sounds like a firewall problem.  My suggestion would be to try and minimize AH and see if you have a dialog in the background or to go into your firewall software and once again enable AH to have internet access.

The same is happening to me....  Never any problems till the update.  I'll try the firewall thingy though, hopefully thats the ticket.

Silly firewalls always have to be kicked after each update before they allow Aces High II to reconnect.  I have no idea why, but it is the way they work.

Skuzzy,

I called yesterday and spoke with Rob briefly about an issue but I haven't been able to solve it yet.  I'm on dial-up through Earthlink and haven't had too many issues with connect at all until about a week ago.  Now when I login the Ping numbers are gone on all arenas and replaced with a "---".  If I click on Ping Details Button all packets are lost.

Rob told me that Norton software has been recently causing issues so I uninstalled Norton System Works 2003, Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security, ect.  All Norton is uninstalled.  I next turned off XP S2 built-in Firewall and went through all my programs running in the background.  I've uninstalled Earthlink software, tried to connect with and without it running, went down to Panera's and used their wireless connection but I keep getting "---" for ping.  It will sometimes let me connect anyway but then loses connection right away.  Any ideas?  I was fine for a week but now thinking of wiping out this computer and starting fresh if I can't get AH to work right.  Any additional ideas are greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,

Higgins

Try running a PingPlot to the MA (216.91.187.39) and see if it shows a problem.  If it goes through cleanly, then there is a good chance something is broke on your computer.

By the way, it was not Rob, it was Roy, and that is me.  :D

Skuzzy,

I want to apologize for calling you Rob.  Totally my mistake and I meant no harm by it Ron..hehehe.  I'm just horrible with names.  I will try the pingplot and thanks again for taking the time to reply.  I have the feeling this will just be motivation for starting fresh on my computer again though.  It runs better afterwards anyhow.

Regards,

Higgins
