Ive been working in the Dietary Department of a Large Nationwide Nursing Home since May of Last Year.
Today is my last day. Two Weeks ago, I put in my two weeks when I found a new Job. Having been frsutrated that I was in this posistion from the beginning, I finally found a job somewhat related to my college degree.
I didnt mind the Job really, It was real close. And I enjoyed the atmosphere for the most part. Its the first time, I ever worked for a large corporate entity.
Our Nursing Home, like most others, is funded by Medicare and Medicaid. Although some people pay there own money to live there, these people are usually well off and can afford a private room, for a little less than 5,000 a Month.Other people dont have the money, and VA benefits or SS/Medicare/Medicaid pay there way, or at least a large portion of it.
When it comes to Healthcare Im pretty liberal, But after a Year there my views have changed drastically. Some people need to be there, others dont. This free ride stuff has got to stop!, Most of the free-loaders are morbidly obese. They are in fairly good health, except for the fact they are severly overweight.
We have a 37 year old Male, that is pushing close to 600lbs, His doctor put him on a 1500 Calorie diet. He refuses to abide by the diet. He will refuse the 1500 Calorie Meal and ask for the Regular Meal, but only after he eats what he want on his first plate. Id be willing to say he eats at quadruple his reccomended caloric intake every day. Then he comes to me and asks me what I reccomend he should do to lose weight.
Id be willing to say, that this is going on all over the country. The Morbidly Obese are using there problem to fleece the government every day. They are waited on hand and foot, They dont even have to get out of bed. Instead they make demands on how and what they will eat, They use the bathroom in bed and demand the Aides to clean them. If they dont want to help themselves they need to go home and lay in there own bed and use there own money to get someone to wipe there butt.
Sorry for the long rant, but I just wanted to inform you on where your tax dollars go. Straight into the hands of Corporate Suits that run Americas Nursing Homes, which is hardly seen by the hard working people who staff them. Which in turn only hurts the people who need continous care. I cant help to feel sorry for the elderly, Menatlly Handicapped and Physically Handicapped, who are forced to live there, when other people who by there own doings have deemed themselves handicapped because of poor eating habits.
I will continue to visit the Nursing Home, I have made plenty of friends there. I bring my History Books over to a man who served with the 10th Armored in WW2, and there are others who I will miss. But Beyond that, Im glad Im finally the hell out of there!
