P-47 view bug
« on: July 21, 2005, 02:06:18 PM »
The P-47 of all models has been one of my fav planes for a long time now even before the N model apeared. However, something has changed in each model that makes it not a great ride like it used to be (to me). I am hoping that it was just missed when the skins were made and will be fixed when brought to the designers attention.

I used to be able to sit up high in my seat to see over the big nose in order to make my deflection shots more accurate and just a better over all view. Last night I notice I can not sit up past the Sights glass any more. Surely someone else has noticed. Anyway, still a great plane for those who know how to fly it but can we get the "sit up in your seat" view fixed back to like it was. Most all other planes still sit up high when you want to. Thanks

It's a feature FBRaptor. All recently introduced/new planes have much more limited head movement.

Why?? How would that benefit anyone or make gameplay better? I don't understand the reasoning.

Realism?

The reason the P-51 or P-47s feel so much more castrated is that they are very vert old models.  The P-47 model was used since AH1 beta, and the P-51 model was upgraded once, but the head movements were still using the same amounts since allowed in AH1 beta.

However, all the planes that came after, since then, were restricted in up/down head positions. No planes are exempt.

In short, everyone else flying other planes were always flying around with head positions like that, except the P-51s and 47s and a few others.

It wouldn't benefit the gameplay for people why fly them, but it would for people who fight them. Gotta move around a bit more to check 6 - just like every other plane.

I think the over-the-nose view (which I use also for snapshots, etc.) isn't realistic in the manner that you or I use it.

If you're following an NME through a moderate to high G turn, pull on the stick more and then try to stand up to see over the nose--that's just not realistic.  And yes, in planes like the F6, Tiffy, FM2, P-47, and Hurricane, that kind of view over the nose would require almost standing in the cockpit (or some sort of input from your legs) to put your head on the top of the canopy.

I don't like it either, but I've always thought that kind of view was a bit unrealistic.

The first P47 came out well after beta.

In the first open beta there were VERY few planes to choose from. We had the 51D the Spit9, and the G10 at the beginning, by the end of beta tour 3 we had some more 109s, the N1K, 190A8, even the 205 came out before AH1 was released if I recall correctly.
