Heckler Koch USP45

I just shot 100 runds through the compact USP 45. Pretty good gun, just screams quality and was very accurate just like the Sig P220. The trigger was also good.

However I found the ergonomics lacking.

Surprsingly the grip was quite good and the heavy grip checkering was not uncomfortable. But the layout and function of the secondary controls were not good to me.

The slide release is too far forward and the safety seems to get in the way of it.

The combined safety decocker is a neat touch, but I really dont like the idea of external safetys.

The up/down mag release on the trigger guard is odd to me, I much prefer the  push-in button types on the side of the grip. Finally all these odd controld made me somehow want to release the slide after the last slide lock..

Hmmm... What do you all think..

But anyway the full size USP is the only game in town for a high capacity 45, 10+1 45 is pretty intersting.

I own the USP 45 full size.  I have 3 10-rounders.  I just bought my first 12 round Hi-cap mag.   I do not use the slide release, I combat rack.   I have large hands and do not have to break my grip to reach it though.

I put a Houge Hand-All on my USP45 and it made a HUGE Difference.

I've put 4,000 rounds (9my uncle put 5,000 rounds through it before I bought it) through it without a hitch.

PS- the Compact will probably be my CCW gun, when I get the permit.

I also own the full size .45 USP as well. I use the Houge grips added on as well.

I love the mag release as well. I find it easier to use my index finger to drop my mag as opposed to the push buitton thumb types of release as found on other guns. The way I see it the HK release allows me to not have to change my grip because my thumbs are to short for push buttons and at the same time I am getting my index off the trigger during the mag change so its kinda an inherrant safety.

Even though I have short thumbs and cant reach push button releases well, I can reach the slide release with out any problem.

I respect Glocks and Sigs but they just dont fit my hands well. The HK fits my hand like a dream and I can shoot it better than the Glocks and Sigs.

The compact version fits the same for me.

Sad though alot of folks seem to not like the HK. Probably the price tag has alot to do with it.

Grun,
Buy the gun for what you think of it, not what other's think. You're the one who's going to be shooting it.
Buy the best gun for the money that you can afford for the purpose you intend to use it for.
