I'm gettin ready to add some toys to my studio. One of which is a high end mic for acoustic and vocal applications. I have been torn as to which avenue to take. I have read up on alot, and even done some 1 on 1 'shootouts' with some great mics. And by great mics I mean:
Lawson
Blue
Brauner
Telefunken
Neumann
Soundelux...etc...
All seem to copy either the Neumann or the Telefunken (German engineering, gottaluvit), creating thier own versions of the ELAM251 or the U47, U67, U87 etc. I have pretty much ruled out Neumann since the repro's are all pretty comparable at about half the price. So for about $2500 (my limit) I can get an amazing mic, and some FET's are a bit cheaper...
And although there are the cheaper alternatives out there like Rode, Studio Projects, AKG, Shure and many others that people will swear by, they are night and day when compared to those up above.
So has anyone here any knowledge or suggestions? I realize I am shooting in the dark on this forum, but I don't read much else

I'm posting this to a few other audio places as well
