Improvement to Mouse Look view
« on: July 30, 2005, 12:47:08 PM »
AHII has the best view setup of any game/sim that I am aware of. Kudos.

I think further refinement of Mouse Look can be made based on existing features.

I use the mini-stick on a CH throttle for Mouse Look.

Mouse Look pivots around a single point that can only be repositioned manually with the arrow keys and pg up and dn, at least as far as I know. So if you want to look aft using the mouse, you have to manually move the view point right or left to avoid the aft bulkhead or armor, then mouse around. A bit of a hassle.

It seems to me that making use of the existing Padlock coding could automatically position the head away from cockpit frames and aft bulkhead. Padlock coding (apparently) interacts with both the pilot head position, and the x,y,(z?) location of the locked target. The locked target always remains precisely centered in the screen. The coding automatically moves the pilot point of view around in the cockpit to the most advantageous position to avoid frames and fuselage.

So for an improved Mouse Look, use the Padlock coding, but instead of taking the x,y,(z?) from a locked target, use the x, y coordinates of the mouse (and some fixed z distance, e.g. 1 mile, if z is used). Then whenever you sweep the mouse, the program automatically moves the pilot's head in the cockpit to the most advantageous place to avoid frames and fuselage, just as in Padlock. As soon as input from the mouse ceases, the view stays fixed where it is. With this improvement you could sweep your view aft, and forward low, without all the arrow key hassles.

The pre-programmable hat views are great, but they are fixed. I think a padlock-mouse hybrid view would be another step of progress.

Also when in the cockpit could the mouse cursor be invisible, except when mousing over the clipboard.

Best regards.
