Why does he go so often?
« on: July 30, 2005, 04:31:57 PM »
White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Friday that Bush will leave after signing into law the Central American Free Trade Agreement that Congress gave final approval to earlier this week.

It will be the president's 50th trip to the ranch since he was elected nearly five years ago.

Why does Bush go to Texas so often? 50 trips in 5 years? that is 10 times a year or almost 1 time a month. I havent seen it said so  I will, I think he is scared something is gonna happen in Washington D.C. and he doesnt want to be there when it does.

Doesnt instill a lot of confidence in the Homeland Security department now does it? Or maybe he just likes to vacation all the time. Sorry but I am not gonna buy that it is just as easy for him to run the country from Texas as the White House. To me its all about perception and the perception I get is he is scared of a terrorist attack or he really just likes vacations. He should be walking the streets of DC to show Americans wont be bullied or scared of Terrorists but instead he goes to his ranch. Maybe they are winning. Where is a brave, courageous leader when we need one? I want one who stands on the steps of Congress and says he won't be scared out of town. One who only leaves DC to go overseas or on official business.

Sorry don't mean to rip bush so badly but I think it again shows where his true feelings lie when it comes to the war on terror and his ability to lead.

Huhhh hmmmmmmmmmm

Texas IS the country!!!!!!!!!:p

J/K

He can't walk the streets. He'd be dead. Now some may say that is being a chicken. I say it is being smart and common sense. Rarely is the President ever on vacation when he is here in Texas. He is always doing the nations business. Medias calls it what they percieve it to be. But of he comes here to Texas , out of 10 times a year here , I would say 8 of those he is doing aloty of work. The other 2 possibly more relaxing than work.

Not to mention it's Dove season soon. Bow season for deer soon. Then Muzzle loading season for deer. Then 2.5 months of regular gun season for deer.

Temps are coming down.....in about 2 more months or so.

and ....The Stars at night are big and bright....Deep in the heart of Texas.  :lol

It would be a whole lot easier to kill him in Texas than in Washington, and has been noted, he does the Nations business where ever he is.  Note also that he has held very few State dinners, but has had as many meetings with foreign leaders (many at the Texas ranch) as anyone.  His method is different, but it isn't like he is on a vacation, by any means.

1) I dont see how you say its easier to kill him in Texas.

2)DC is a target and for him to spend most of his time away from there, well it doesnt exactly send the right message to the citizens of DC now does it?

3)Vacation is only a small part of it. I am more concerned about how it looks like he is hiding.

4)Anyone find any info on other presidents taking so many trips to their home while in office? How about a wartime president?

Why does the president need to be in DC?  If he can't telecommute who can?

I'd like the congress to be required to stay in their districts and do all their work on line.  It would make lobbists job a lot tougher and make seeing my congressman / senator a lot easier.

If you've ever been to DC, you'd take Texas over DC for doing your business.....

Raider, 3.5 more years, get used to it. ;)

Generally, if you are going to hide, you don't tell the world where you are hiding, especially when it is a small ranch in the scrub country of Central Texas.  In addition, if it is a vacation, you do not schedule visits of heads of state, or do appearances.

Because DC is a 1 of the top 2 targets in our country. Because He is our leader. Because it makes him look like he's scared. Because it doesnt instill confidence that he hides in Texas. His ability to perform his function as President does not concern me. It is the impression I think he gives that they scared him out of town.

Agreed about congress though. Sounds like a good idea.

George W. and Laura Bush purchased around 1600 acres just outside of Crawford in 1999.

1600 acres is not small.

crawford population 630

Being in a small county is good for protection. Anyone who doesnt belong is going to look out of place really quick.

Like I said its not about vacation, its about perception that he has been scared out of DC.

The mans home is in Texas and home is where your heart is. I damn sure wouldnt want to spend most of my time in that God forsaken sespool called Washington DC when I could be at my own ranch! Plus if youve ever seen his ranch you wouldnt ask why he likes to spend so much time there. Another reason is Texas is Bush country. Any terrorist attack on his ranch would end up with several million angry rednecks chasing the attacker down and hanging them from the tallest tree with the shortest rope they can find. :aok

P.S.  Im from Texas..... and I whole heartedly support our president and our troops!
