Modem Woes

My old modem crapped out on me after 6 years.  So I replaced it with a Creative Labs PCI modem v.92.  I'm now getting the wonderful BSOD after about 30 minutes of being online.

I've got it installed in the same slot as the old modem, so I don't think its an IRQ conflict.  I thought there was a windows command that could be run that would show you all the IRQ's that the various devices are using.

Does anyone know what that command is?  I did not uninstall the old modem drivers (formerly a Diamond SupraMax) which in hind-sight, I probably should have.

Any other ideas what might be causing the BSOD?

My guess would be a driver issue.



Come to think of it, it could still be an IRQ issue.  I had one of those modems awhile back, and it was very picky about its IRQs.  It only allows Windows to assign one or two IRQ settings, and you cant change it.  Alot of video cards are like that too.

Ive noticed with some types of modems that if it is set to com port 3 it would give me problems , some would give me trouble on com 1 aswell. I would first make sure it isnt sharing an irq , then maybe change the com port if it was still giving you trouble.  Also , is your ISP V.92 compatable?   There are certian features like, modem on hold , and others that can effect the modem in strange ways .  I usually disable V.92 with a modem int string . edit , make sure that the diamond modem isnt visible in any of the modem property pages , look in add and remove programs too for any leftover reminants

I would boot safe mode and remove all modem drivers.  Then do a reload normally. I've seen several modems that would only work on certain IRq's.  Like 3 or 5, but not 7 or 9 etc...

Run/MSinfo32
will show you varios info about your comp such as IRQ´s
