Would they support such a thing?

Canada, the quiet country that one day just snapped.  No.

Is it a big subject in Canada right now??

No...well maybe, but only as something humourous to talk about.  The only ones that are taking it seriously are some politians and diplomats, and who cares what they think.

Would the US be dragged into the war because of alliences?

Probably not, we are all NATO allies.

I heard a rumor that it's going to be a "bar fight".

Canada chooses one manly hero. Denmark chooses one manly hero.

At sunup on the chosen day, the drinking begins, toe to toe across a small table in a bar. One round with the drink chosen by the Canadian. Next round chosen by the Dane. On and on they go, 3 minutes between rounds.

Last man standing wins the island for his country.

I think OLN or ESPN2 bought the TV rights.

This is getting pretty serious.... we may have to go down to the rink and get some guys off the ice to lend us a hand...

"We will hand over a note to Canada in which we will express our viewpoint," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Taksoe-Jensen. "Hans Island is our island."

What Canada needs to do is state something similar to the Monroe doctrine..

Quote
THE MONROE DOCTRINE (1823)
Essentially informed the powers of the Old World that the American continents were no longer open to European colonization, and that any effort to extend European political influence into the New World would be considered by the United States "as dangerous to our peace and safety." The United States would not interfere in European wars or internal affairs, and expected Europe to stay out of American affairs.

Did you know that,

"Hans Ø" directly translated can mean "His Island".

Danish pastry is in Denmark known as Wienerbrød ("Vienna Bread"), while in Vienna and other german speaking places it's known as Kopenhagener Gebäck.

Northwest passage -- out here they seem to think something about fishing rights. But the division between canadian and danish waterways is pretty clear. It's just Hans Ø that's at issue. Why not ship in water, hops and malt and make Hans' Øl? Oh yeah, that's right, because the canucks will insist on adding maize.
