If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

The US navy said a Super Scorpio unmanned vessel was being flown out from San Diego on Friday morning Pacific time (late afternoon GMT).

though technically what they are stuck in is almost a DSRV.

a little 7 man sub, and anything they could bring down there is probably the same size.

To me, being dragged along the ocean floor to shallower water would be enough of an ordeal to kill me.

The Navy ROV is equipped to cut cables and stuff like that.  Hopefully they can get it on site in time.

I saw a good film about Squalus rescue, "Submerged". I think it was made for TV.

IIRC it was the only successfull sunk submaribe crew rescue from something like 50m deep... "Priz" is stuck at 200m...

From the reports of Russian Navy PR officer I come to a sad conclusion that the crew is in a serious trouble :( We still remember his reports in 2000 about Kursk :(

wondering if the Scorpio couldn't be lashed to a heavy lift copper and dropped right on the scene...?

Hope like hell these guys get out ok.. that's no way to die, trapped like rats in a tin can.

Why is a sub this size, out in the Pacific?
Isn't it a RESUCE sub?
Is there perhaps another sub down somewhere?

Looks like they were able to attach a tow cable to the sub, but I don't know if that makes it better or worse.  I would certainly hate to be in a sub that is dragged around by a ship I can not communicate with....

Time is running out for these guys...  and equipment that is being sent is still going to take a while to get there....
