« on: August 06, 2005, 11:14:47 AM »
Were did all the cool sci-fi/space games go?  I havn't seen a good one released in quite a long time.  I think the last one I played was like homeworld2 or something, or maybe even wing commander 4.

anyone got any good recomendations as of late?

Freespace 2, and it went downhill from that point forward. Havn't seen anything worthwhile since.

yea I've played Freespace2 and I'm actually thinking of dusting off imperium glactica 2 and playing that out of bordom w/ everything else.

I was looking at games at the store isle the other day and there's nothing new/cool on the scifi market it seems.  The newest one I've seen is homeworld 2 and i've allready played that.

How was Tachyon: The Fringe?  I played the demo a long time ago.  Supposedly an open ended game with a decent space combat model from what I remember.

It was Chris Robert's wet dream. I have it as well - its basically what he hoped to make Privateer but couldn't b/c technology was limited 10 years ago. But Freelancer pulls it off.

My favorite was Privateer II The Darkening. Loved that game!

I started Freelancer. At first I thought it was going to be good. But then it turned out to be the same format everywhere u went. You'd go to the bar and ask a question. They'd respond "Your new here arent you". Over and over.

But worst of all, was the design for outfitting your ship. It seemed like you'd upgrade your weapons...just as the enemy got just that much harder. Seemed like I was treading water all the time. Going nowhere. The repeditive boredom made me quit.

I played Freelancer and really loved it when I got a hold of themods for it...

Imperium Galactica 2 was pretty awesome - sold my copy a few years back.

Tachyon: The Fringe was good but looking back it seems a lot like Freelancer except you have a choice of sides.

Homeworld 2 was awesome - best game sequel ever IMO

If you're into something really complex (that really didn't do anything for me) try Master of Orion 3.

Nexus:The jupiter incident isn't too bad.

I've been going old school with x-wing alliance lately.

I've been playing this a lot lately.http://www.egosoft.com/games/x2/info_en.php

X2:The Threat.  Cool game, huge universe, lottsa differant ships and weapons, great dynamic economy trading setup.....less than abysmal storyline/plot.

Good thing you can just ignore the story alltogether, and just get on with doing whatever you want in the universe.

X3:The Reunion should be out soonish (prolly Christmas time I reckon), promises vastly improved graphics(X2 looks great allready) and storyline with the same excellant trading system, and bigger stations.

Worth a look if you are into games that make you think about what you are doing, and what you should do next.
