« on: August 06, 2005, 12:21:46 PM »
Alot of you nay sayers have been rolling your eyes and "source please"ing this when ever I or somone else brings it up but I've allways thaught from the reports that it was obvious.  We are not just fighting Iraqi insurgants in Iraq (yes I ment insurgants meaning Iraqis fighting the occupation of their country and frmr bathists apposed to the new govt) but we are also fighting foriegn, to include Iranian and syrian, terrorists.

Shipment of high explosives intercepted in Iraq
Most sophisticated of roadside bombs reportedly coming from Iran

PENTAGON - It’s the number one killer of American troops in Iraq: roadside bombs.

The massive roadside bomb that killed 14 Marines Wednesday flipped their 37-ton vehicle on its top and blew it some 40 feet down the road.

Tonight, there’s disturbing information that some of the most sophisticated of these deadly weapons are reportedly coming from Iran.

U.S. military and intelligence officials tell NBC News that American soldiers intercepted a large shipment of high explosives, smuggled into northeastern Iraq from Iran only last week.

The officials say the shipment contained dozens of "shaped charges" manufactured recently. Shaped charges are especially lethal because they’re designed to concentrate and direct a more powerful blast into a small area.

“They’ll go right through a very heavily armored vehicle like an M1-A1 tank from one side right out the other side,” says retired U.S. Army General Barry McCaffrey.

Military officials say there’s only one use for shaped charges — to kill American forces — and insurgents started using them in Iraq with deadly effectiveness three months ago.

Intelligence officials believe the high-explosives were shipped into Iraq by the Iranian Revolutionary guard or the terrorist group Hezbollah, but are convinced it could not have happened without the full consent of the Iranian government.

And Thursday, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld accused Iran of attempting to derail the democratic process in Iraq.

Iran’s *****e government has also struck up a seemingly strange alliance with Sunni insurgents  to try to drive the American military out of Iraq.

"They are desperate to get us out of Iraq” says Michael Ledeen, author of "The War Against the Terror Masters" and resident scholar in the Freedom Chair at the American Enterprise Institute. “If we succeed in Iraq they will be surrounded by elected governments.”

Military officials acknowledge that these explosives are only the tip of the iceberg... and predict the deadly bombings in Iraq are far from over.

Yeah no surprise there. Glad they got some evidence though. Also might explain why the bombers have gotten deadlier.  I figure Osama and his whole crew are somewhere in Iran. Lets not forget our good "saudi friends" too. Lots of saudi fighters have been killed. Anyone seen statistics on foreign fighter kills?

I was watching "over there" the other night (yea I know it's a TV show but it does mirror real life) and the new character Tariq made a good point.

He basically stated, after killing two syrians, why wouldn't they want to come here.  To answer the call of jihad and kill Americans in the middle east will probably be the biggest thing to happen in their lifetime.

what angers me is when you get a "source please" after stating something like this when it is plainly obvious and our troops on the ground have been saying this for the last couple of years.

Now the real telling story would be is if the Iranian govt in support of hezbula (sp?) was linked to all of this.  Then it would get REAL intersting.

and what about "our friends" the saudis. 15 of the 17 911 attackers were saudis so the US goes after afganinistan the poorest county on earth. i just dont get the logic. ill bet if 15 north koreans and 2 costa ricans make a terrorst  attack on the US  that argentina dont get bombed. makes about as much sence to me. for those who say it isnt about the oil please show me how the oil industry has made less money due to higher fuel prices. took it in the pants did they?

I still don't think it's about oil.  Oil production hasn't increased at all since the war and higher prices are generally because of higher demand.  It's going to get worse before it gets better.

We can sit here and argue the reasons why and history but that's moot now considering we are there and it's our mess to clean up.

I don't think the saudi govt is that supportive of terrorism, it's not good for business BUT like most mid eastern/islamic states they are secretly/sometimes not sympothetic.  There in lays the problem.

I would go so far as to predict that if we stayed in Iraq another two years and got a good govt going we'd be at war with Iran sooner than later.

What dont you get?  Or what don't you remember?

Al Queda had major training bases in Afghanistan.  It was the major gathering and training base for terrorists, and this was going on with the full consent of the Taliban who were in control of Afghanistan.

Do you think we should have gone after Saudi Arabia instead?  Because some fools were from there?  I of course have a big problem with the Saudi Royal Family allowing clerics to spread hate in the mosques there, but at least they didnt allow open training of terrorists.
