Thrustmaster Elite pedals.......
« on: August 08, 2005, 01:59:14 PM »
Mine are spiking like crazy......I keep getting the "Don't move your controls so rapidly" messages, constantly...and the sluggish nonresponsiveness as the system dumbs down your inputs.  Lost a lot of fights that way..thought I had it fixed, but now....
I've adjusted the deadband and damping to no avail.
Anyone know how to clean the pots or whatever is inside these things so maybe I can get back to playing?

Thanks in advance.....

Send S.O.B an e-mail. I'll tell him about this thread, but you can also find him at the FDB Forums. He's got spare pots lying around. You might also try to post a question over at Frugal's World.

If you ever go all USB or have to replace your Elites I've got the SIMPED Vario-pro pedals and they have the same wide spacing and movement as the Elites but with a digital hall sensor(magnets not rheostats). You have to get them shipped from Germany but they're worth it. :)

Actually, I don't think I have any pots for the Elite pedals, and I don't even know how the pot mounts in 'em.  You may be able to find something suitable at Radio Shack, just make sure the range is good enough (some pots don't output resistance values through 100% of their movement).

You can use an electronics cleaner or something like WD40 to clean out the the pot.  The word I got from the manufacturer of the pots was DON'T DO THAT, since what you're cleaning out of there is the lubricant and in doing so you will lower the lifetime of the pot considerably.  However, lots of people do it, and seem to have good results...probably because they end up with a lot of crap like dust and pet hair mixed in with the lubricant, which ends up getting between the contacts.

Checked Radio Shack after I got the specs on the pots from TM.....250K was what it calls for.

No dice at Radio Shack....most they had was 100K...but......I DID find an old set of Atari paddles, took them apart and looked at the pots in them.
They read "1 MEG" ohms, so I am not sure how they will act, but at this point, I ain't got much to lose.
Tried flying again tonight for one sortie, and just like last night, the spiking is killing my flying......they make the nose waggle all over the place, making the majority of my bullets spray everywhere, PLUS locking down the controls and making me a sitting duck.  BGBMAW, sorry I wasn't able to put up much of a fight earlier.......was trying to do a spiral climb and the controls locked.......that F4U1-C looks UGLY climbing up your six when you have no controls.

I have 9 brand new (long shaft) pedal pots. My TM pedals are 12 years old now and still going strong. If Im not mistaken the elite peds are just the gold anodized iso black ones. If so, I'd be happy to give you one.  As I said the shaft is a hair long but you won't notice the difference.
