Hey guys just need some advice.

I remember reading about "Ghost Trails" on LCD monitors when they first came out due to refresh rates. Are there still problems using an LCD monitor for gaming?

If there aren't think you guys could recommend one +19''?

Also, whats this hype about PCIe (express) and SLi video cards?

Stopped reading about hardware for about a year and they totally reinvent the computer.

I've had an 18" microtek 815C  lcd screen for over a year.  I absolutely love it.  Now it is not perfect mind you, as once in a great while if the action is super fast it might get just a slight tad blocky for an instant or two.  But, it uses  just a few inches of my desk top and uses only around 50 watts of electricity to power it.  

Personally, I'll not go back to a crt monitor, at least for what I do with it.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 512N - love it. Takes up almost no space on my computer stand, is much cooler (temperature wise) than my old CRT and the only issue I have with it is that its hard to view the screen at an angle.

To answer your question, I've never had any issues with gaming and my LCD.

I just used a Samsung 915N extensively and it looked perfect in games.
Animal highly recommends the Dell 2001fp and the 2004fpw.

Refresh rate is the key.  Don't get anything slower than 16ms.  The cheapo LCDs with a 25ms or higher refresh rate are crap.

LG Flatron L1920P 19"...

16ms...tested up to 12ms(some go higher some lower)...

the 8ms should be out soon...

as for ghosting...forgetaboutit...no trouble at all in WW2.

Tom's had some reviews on 19" gaming LCDs. I went with the Hyundai L90+. Nice price from NewEgg and it has great color and no ghosting at all. I play BF2 on it all the time. Smooth as my old 19" CRT.

awsome.. thanks guys..

Found a samsung 19'' with 4ms response time for 400 about 200 more than other 19'' but they say its got a great picture and you'll never have an issue with ghosting.. if 4ms is overkill then.. I'll see if there is anything with 12ms.

I've got a few coins saved up just closed on my house and feeling I want to splurg a bit..

for the prize of a flatscreen i might get a hi end hi quality monitor.

I just picked up a couple of 19" 1905fp's from Dell for a very good price of $260 a piece (do a google search for dell coupon codes).  CNet and Anandtech have really good reviews of this monitor...check them out for yourself.  Even though it has a 20ms response time, I don't really notice any ghosting in the games I play.

I'm using a 19" Hitachi from 1998.  Love it to death, but when it dies I'm going LCD.

Just to clarify a few things: What you're looking for is a monitor with the lowest possible response time. Refresh rate is something very different (how many times the picture is updated per second), and not really an issue with LCD's (most just run on 60 hz).

Response time is the time in milliseconds it takes for the individual pixels to react to change. The higher the response time the more "ghosting" you'll get. Generally 16 or less milliseconds is acceptable for gaming.

Also make sure your LCD monitor has a good contrast ratio. 1:400 or 1:500 is ok.
