End the Lemming Line
« on: August 11, 2005, 02:48:13 PM »
Hi All,

It's high time the paratroopers we drop out of C47s & M3s were actually armed.

Why? Well for instance, the other day I decided it was time to be a really big weenie, and after bailing out of my shattered bird over the town I promptly walked to and then hid in the Map Room and sure enough managed to zap several of the lemming enemy paras who came charging in with my .45 o'death thus lengthening the lifespan of our massively over-run base by a few minutes.

So here is my suggestion:

1) Give each of the paras either a Tommy Gun or a Rifle and a reasonable amount of ammo and have them fire at the nearest enemy target in range (other than toolsheds).

2) Have the paras assume a formation OTHER than a straight line when running towards the map room  (a simple V for instance)

This would make them more realistic, slightly more difficult to strafe, and free them up from charging one after another Lemming style into a hail of .45 bullets in the maproom.

Please can we get rid of that particularly arcadish element?

And please please...give them a uniform appropriate to the mission. 82d or 101st for para.  1st INF or some other armored inf unit for the ground.
Why not go as far and allow Infantry ability to destroy town on their own. Would be cool to see mass para drops to take town down, while fighters and gv's do the genuine support role.

I still haven't figured out where the map room is.  Is that the "indestructable" building??

Base capture by A/I.  I can just hear the whines now.

But it would be cool to watch, or try to stop it.

It's the green hump / hut in the middle of town, kind of looks like a bunker.

I've learned not to ask for too much in one bite SPQR, so I'm just going to ask for the minimum, paras who shoot back rather than acting exactly like a bunch of pieces of wood on a conveyor belt.

(But I agree that more development of the ground war aspects will help TOD immensely)

if you gonna have the troops take the town by themselves (which they should be able to), they need to have a set squad type: 7 riflemen, 1 LMGer, 1 SMGer, and a bazooka man.

if you really wanna get into fun stuff, you could deploy defencive infantry and even engineers do repair the town.

What about British Air Landing Brigade, Parachute Division, Or falschirmjager Uniforms? We're not all Americans you know! ;)

absolutely skydancr! Just associated uniforms with current equipment. definitely brits for sure ( I just didnt know any units to qoute). be nice to have german support equipment as  well. I agree seagoon, not biting off more can chew. Just thought I'd throw it out there. And yes defensive infantry too, the immersion would be intense, specially if sqd equipped with bazooka or panzerschrek!

it should take at least two companies to capture a town.  there should be AI defenders in every bombed out building.  they could be ordered around by the same general that orders me to strafe the ack or kill buildings when I'm furballing.  :D
