I love the one that says..."If Electronic Arts get in touch...don't sell."

I hope Oleg listens...carefully..

What is the story with this sim anyway...I've seen alot of people mention it...is it an online sim or stand-alone?  Can you fly the German planes too?

I'm ignorant about it because it simply has not shown up in the stores here...I thought it was a Jet-Sim, but obviously I was wrong.

It is WWII Eastern front, so Luftwaffe and Soviet aircraft, with the focus on the (um.. need I say?) Il-2 Sturmovik.  It is a boxed, stand alone sim, but with a multiplayer component that I have heard is pretty good.  There is a demo, which I recommend trying - though alot of things (dirty windshields, etc.) have been changed in the release version.  You can get the demo from il2sturmovik.com or a service like fileplanet.com

Unfortunately for me, my copy is in pretty red wrapping paper, sitting under the tree, and Mrs. Claus says I can't touch it for another... 14 days...

Kratzer: Oooh! I wonder what is in THAT box!?!
Mrs. Kratzer: (rolling eyes) Yeah, I F@#%ing wonder.

I thought the demo sucked and wasn't going to get the game. Well my roommate got it for me  :)  This thing is simply the best "boxed" sim ever released.  The level of detail in the FM is unbelievable.  Cowling flaps engine RPM and throttle.  You better not let your engine get too hot or your screwed.  The feeling of flight is very similar to AH and WW2 OL to me.  But the damage model is totaly freaking awesome.

I don't think it will hurt AH at all as the online part only supports 16/32 in coop/death match style.  That's good, but it's not a 50+ plane merge  ;)  The game has a few issues, but it's about the most "bugless" release I've ever seeen.  I have had no CTD's or show stoppers.  Defenately worth $40.  It's what WW2 fighters and EAW and SDOE should have been...
