Can anyone tell me anything about the history of this firearm other than a general walther history?

I was struck in particular by the low serial number and good condition of the pistol.

Your Walther is marked ac 44, built in September, 1944. Serial numbers started at 1 and went through 9999. 93 is a low serial number in the series. The months started at "a" for January, "b" for February, etc. so "i" would be September.

Looks like a very nice collectable P-38. You can see it's late war because the tool marks are pronounced. These were not finished as smoothly due to urgency of production at the time. Not sure what the eagle 359 proofmarking is. Maybe tells where the pistol was manufactured?

The '5' in that 'eagle 359' proof would actually be a swastika would it not?

Aye, I fired it a few times earlier in the month. Very accurate, very smooth, it's got a very natural point and shoot feel, feels about as easy as pointing your finger. I've shot a few Walthers in the past and they've all felt more clumsy than this one.
