My daughter has a 94 GMC somona that is getting hard to start. Is there something I can look at myself or do I need to take it somewhere to a mechanic?

Starter cranks engine fine, just seems to be pretty balky lately, especially like when shut off to refuel at gas station and then restarting it.

if its a 4.3w could be fuel pressure regulator on spider injector, in which case you need a 17113673 and a 10115939. Which is a injector assem. and a plenum gasket.

Do ya smell gas under hood, the regulators on them are known to go bad. the injector lists for 355.00 and the gasket around 15.00.

Another problem is aftermarket fuel pumps, if ya recently changed a fuel pump with an aftermarket pump they don't put out enough pressure as the OEM equipment.

If its a 4.3z motor, I usually sell the injectors themselves, only two in TBI, but ya need a node light to see if the are functioning properly.

94? Lotsa miles? My first guess would be fuel pump. Chevy/GMC's are notorious for in-tank pumps going out. Trouble starting is the first indication, unfortunately there is no way to test them. My nephew's 94 GMC 1500 went out a few months ago and it was hard to start for a couple weeks then completely dead.

All you have to do is drop the tank and put in a new pump. They run anywhere from $75 to $350 depending on the engine.

Yeah its got a lot of miles. How hard is the fuel tank to take out and do the pump? Is it a do it yourself or take it to the shop type job? And thanks for the responses.

You can do it in the driveway if you have a decent set of tools. Should be just 2 straps holding the tank in place, the fuel lines and a set of wires going to the pump.

Just be careful, remember the tank is full of gas.

I just put a fuel pump in my girlfriends 2000 chevy s10 and it was allmost $400... it is like allmost two foot long and six inch around (including sender and all) you can remove the truck bed as an alternate to dropping the tank. A real pain.

I got an estimate from the mechanic. $345.00 for pump, filters, strainer and labor. Pretty fair price I thought.
