Author Topic: Better fps at higher resolution settings (Read 649 times)

I went from 1200 X 960 to 1600 X 1200, and I get about 1 fps better frame rates.

This seems kind of strange, anyone have any idea why? Not that I am complaining

I have seen the same thing. Donno why either. I also saw a slight increase when I went from 512 to 1024 textures....again...donno why.

Newer video cards are more efficient at higher resolutions. ATI started that trend with the 9700.

Got a 9800 pro but when I use the higher res stuff what i get at alt is higher fps and in a 1 v 1 is still higher but when I get down low or into a big furball it all goes into the tolet!!!!

Drops down into the teens and once even single digits.

W98SE may be the problem but???????

I may then try to go from the 128 texture setting to the higher rates and see what happens.

I have a ATI X700 video card with 256 MB of RAM, it uses the new high speed PCI Express slot.

PCI Express does not do a thing for games.

The X700, you should be using 256 or 512 texture sizes. Not 1024 or 128.

OOPS my bad.

Set res to highest possible for AHII.

Takes some getting used too.

But FPS is better!

Haven't tried a big furball yet so it's kinda a we will see thing but........... the distances seems different, and you can see more but gotta look around more hmmmm............

1st sortie with it that way wasn't bad. 5 kills which is very good for me in a 109g10.

Thinkin I can see what's happening better as well, and move to avoid better too.

Ya do have to look around allot more as the view is kinda both smaller and bigger?!?!?!

My x700 ran just fine on 1024 and steadily got about 80 fps.

My x800 is running same textures and getting about 140 to 150 fps. Only problem is everytime we have an update my fps seem to go down the toilet for the first few flights.

if you are running 150fps i suggest putting some eye caddy on.....like
AAx2 or x4
and
AFx4 or x8

Why does PCI Express not do a thing for games?

Does it not transfer the info faster?

I didn't even know it for a while, but I had a 4X AGP motherboard. I bought a new one that had an 8x AGP, and all my old stuff transfered over cpu, ram, etc. I noticed a huge increase in performance. Would PCI E not do the same?

Now he tells me,

. I just got one. Sliders in the middle and run at stable 75FPS (thats the max my screen can do) unless in a major furbal low with bombers around and smoke all over the place. Then it will drop to 40 or 50 fps. This is a major improvement from the 4 or 5 I would get when close to bomber formations or the 10 to 15 in a furball with all the sliders to the right.

Also, I did see FPS improvement with the 1024 text sizes witht he old card.

No performance differences from AGP8X to PCI-E will be noticed as there really is not that much data being moved over the bus to begin with.
The real overhead is on the graphics card, and not with the movement of the data to/from the graphics card.
