PORTLAND -- Gov. Ted Kulongoski on Tuesday signed legislation that will make Oregon the first state to require prescriptions for cold and allergy medications that can be converted into methamphetamine.

That was done several years ago here in new zealand.

It was also made illegal to import anything containing pseudoephedrine. Stiff penalties if you get caught.

The new laws havn't made a lot of differance to the meth problem though... it's still big. The gangs cornered the market and are getting rich of the stuff. Meth is easy money for them, less risky than convential crme.

The latest tactic from the authorities in their war on crime, and meth in particular, is to give the cops more guns. But some of us think that giving beat cops Bushy M-4 carbines is a bit over the top.

And it's going to make the revolution just that much harder.

Meth is starting to be a big problem here. Not as big as in other states but our county has the 2 most reported Meth Labs in our state.
They are trying to get the word out to people about how bad this drug is. Once you start you're pretty much hooked. Their is a chance you can recover but it is extremly hard. I did not know that much about meth until I began doing research on it for the website I was creating for them http://www.methdeath.org (Still in the works) This is a nasty drug, they say even crack addicts won't even touch it. Problem is if you can stop the Mom and Pop Meth Labs the gangs will start pumping it in.

They tried to stop meth a few years ago in Thailand. Police and paramilitary death squads executed some 2000 people involved in drugs. This had very little effect.

The 'can't pump your own gas' law is pretty silly, I agree.  That said, I don't complain as loudly about it when the temperature is below freezing or over 95f.  Also, our gas prices are traditionally lower then California.  I've heard rumors that people are paying over $3 a gallon there now.  I just filled my tank for something like $2.54 a gallon, so not terrible.  I know there are places where it's cheaper, but could be worse.

BTW, when you show up on your motorcycle, YOU get to pump the gas.  It doesn't take more then one or two scowls for a new gas pumper before he figures it out and leaves everyone else alone.

Great law.
Doing what lawmakers do best.
That being to cause more expense/trouble to the law abiding and in the process inventing more crime and opening the door for  new lines of criminal activity. Brilliant.

As I recall the "Full Service Only" law in Oregon was enacted to preserve jobs back when self service stations started to become the rage in the 70's. The state had one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation at the time.

Please rephrase your post in english.  Even with babelfish, I was unable to render an understandable version of the above text.
