What should the OC be for?

Daft question maybe. Just wonder if aside from the rules that exist a little more clarification is in order bearing in mind the once again shaky status of the OC discussed in some of the threads I've read tonight.

Discussion and friendly banter.

To bad people cant keep it friendly in the political topics.

This comunity is old,  I think there are some long held personal grudges  in here and it seeps in the conversation.

Hmmm... I have to admit... Even with the few flare ups we've had in the past few days, the OC has quieted down considerably, IMHO.

Again I find myself agreeing with you!! :lol

Political debate is always going to get a bit contentious. especialy if people hold strong beliefs. Its what makes things interesting. Sometimes people are going to get rubbed up the wrong way.  but thats life. I don't always agree with my mates and neither do they with me. I'd rather hear or read peoples views and opinions rather than have them keep it to themselves. If they do how can there be any debate, argument, banter whatever. This place has changed. There is less personal attack and abuse flying about. I think its much better. But I hope it doesn't become a place where people just post daft links or little jokes. The discussion, argument and banter is what makes it a great and interesting place.

Its for everything that doesnt break the rules I think.
I like abit of everything and I get that here. The majority of the threads has something to do with guns, religion, politics or cars but i can usually avoid them and find interesting stuff.

Today I see 5 interesting topics on the front page of the O'club alone and that is more than on most other boards. Usually the number is somewere between 5 and 10 interesting topics that i follow.

Great place and seldom dull to stop by here.

Even during the most contentious flame wars, which don't bother me at all, I think this is a pretty good board.  The discussions can be very good.

I dont think the choice is between "warm and fuzzy" drivel, and snarling flame wars. I like to think of it as an online version of the late night college dorm debates, over a pizza and a game of risk.

People can have strong opinions, share them, and debate without delivering the verbal equivalent of bodily harm.

Imagine you were invited over to a party at a friend of a friend's. If the guy were laid back, you could talk about anything - but you wouldnt let it get personally insulting unless you were intent on being a jerk. The concept isnt hard.
