Great fights Eagler!
I sure wish I was in the habit of filming fights, because a few of those were epic. Here's what I remember. It could be wrong but without films it's the best I can do.
First fight, you're in your 109 and I'm yupping around in a ki84. I see you up high, and decide I'm a wimp and start heading away. You maneuver for an entry expecting me to point at you, and when I just turn away and casually wander off you follow. And dive a bit to catch up. Hehe. At some point I suspect you're either a total noob alt-monkey on a 109 gondola power trip, or a vet who thinks he's going after a noob, so I let you close to 1.5 before revving. I put on my best no-respect merge and fight trying to catch you napping, and sure enough I think I caught you a bit by suprise. Kablooie. It's always fun killing someone with a similiar callsign 'cause it's like dueling for the right to use it
Anyhow, it wasn't a fair fight because I went in totally aggressive after playing stoopid and you probably didn't know what the heck I was doing, so up you come again in a 109F. We meet again somewhere between 18 and 17. You know it's me this time, but it's just not fair 109F vs. ki84 esp. since the only plane I've been flying consistently since it was introduced is the ki.
Ok, next time you're in a ki84 also, and it's go time. Boy you stomped me good. I tried to float the merge and keep a little energy on you, and it worked except that I got greedy and put my nose down to get a quick kill. As I overshot and flashed past though, I saw your flaps were already down. Holy crap, not many people know how slow you have to get to drop flaps in a ki84. Sure enough, I flush out waay ahead of you and you blow the living hell out of my plane. Damnit.
Next fight, I'm pissed 'cause there's no way I'm gonna let you sucker me in like that. I do my best no-respect merge and you do a tight vert merge just like me, but you turn it into a vert 8 forcing me to roll and pull again. So I stall out a bit and you get in a pilot wound as we flash past each other nearly HO but with me stalled out. I don't have much of an option so since our moves caused us to get about 1.2 away with you above me and I'm blacking out from the pilot wound, I take the ho and smoke your engine. You knock off some pieces too, and we both figure we're tards and rtb. You swim home, I manage to take micro-naps all the way home and land. Phew.
Next one, I get greedy right after the merge. We both go up and neither gets an advantage, so we start a bit of a looping fight. I've pulled harder and you've given me some angles on purpose so you can sucker me up vert. I followed you up into the sun and ALMOST had the shot, but trim is tricky in the ki84 with the flaps down so I fall off like a noob and you waste me good.
The next fight I force into an immediate flat scissors. I think I managed to get you on this one, but I don't remember. What I do remember is the one where we go on and on for a while after the merge, with neither getting a dominating advantage. I got your oil with a snapshot but the ki84 flies a while with the smoking engine so you have plenty of time to take off one of my ailerons. You started looping which got me good earlier, but now I've learned what you're going to do so I start lagging your loops in a slight climb each time. That way I gain just a touch of alt each loop and we never quite meet HO. You get enuf angles to take that aileron of mine, but eventually I have just enuf energy that I do a huge barrel roll lag and get a nice rear quarter shot. Unfortunately I only get an aileron, so around we go again. Eventually I got you but it took awhile.
Some other rook is inbound, so I figure I'll hang around even though damaged and low on ammo because I'm a crappy shot. In this next fight, my slow roll rate causes me to fly extremely conservatively because I just know I won't be able to take snapshots and get hits. I waste the last of my ammo removing a part or two from your plane, and from then on it's mg only which in a ki84 means it'll take a while. We try looping, and I can maintain the offensive barely but can't get more than a few scattered pings. We try flat turning, but I keep diving inside your turn and scaring you into vertical moves. Finally, after 5-10 minutes of pushing you around the sky but not getting my nose on, I get up close d150ish twice and put enough mg into one wing and it falls off. Victory! Good thing it was 1v1 because I couldn't have fought off a paper lantern after that 'cause I was so shot up and was almost out of mg too.
Some C2 chased me home but gave up to jump a bomber formation, and we either got one more or you logged after that. Great fights though, right in the middle of the arena. It's great to get my butt kicked so thoroughly by such a polite guy, thanks! It's been a while since I've flown and you were an absolutely perfect opponent to show me exactly what I've remembered and what I've forgotten. Plus you're pretty good with the ki-84 I think, which seems to be a rare skill.
